Cyber risk equals 9/11 impact 50°
April 10, 2008 // 3:28 am - The US homeland security chief has made a heartfelt plea to Silicon Valley workers to stand up and be counted in the fight to secure the cyber highway.

Michael Chertoff invoked the attacks of 9/11 as he sought to galvanise IT professionals and security experts.

He told the world's biggest IT security conference that serious threats to cyberspace are on "a par this country tragically experienced on 9/11".

Such attacks can hit financial bodies and a government's powers, he said.

Notice: PlayStation Network Security Breached 50°
March 26, 2008 // 4:29 pm - The official UK PlayStation Web site has issued a notice warning users that a security flaw was found in the PlayStation Store for PC, allowing unauthorized individuals to possibly gain access to personal information.

While the security issue has since been rectified, a small percentage of users may have had their account compromised.

Sony is directly contacting individuals that may have been affected by the incident and is urging all users to log-in to the service. If your pre-set password works, then your PSN account was not compromised.

Microsoft releases Vista update 100°
March 22, 2008 // 4:46 pm - Microsoft has released a service update for all versions of its Windows Vista operating system.

The computer giant claims that the update improves the stability, security and performance of the software.

The update, or service pack, includes some fixes released before now and adds many new ones as well.

Microsoft has warned that the update could clash with some security software and other programs customers may have installed on their machine.

Blu-ray Security Update IS More Anti-Consumer Than Anti-Piracy 50°
October 12, 2007 // 12:39 pm - The Blu-ray camp has been playing with the anti-piracy protection fire and once again consumers got burned. The addition of the BD+ copyright protection technology rendered recent Blu-ray discs basically unplayable, as several such players don't support the new protection software.

The BD+ technology was finalized in June, 2007 and therefore, it affects all the players released previously.

According to initial reports, the BD+ discs won't play at all on LG Electronics BH100 and Samsung BD-P1200...

Sony confirms security problem 50°
September 3, 2007 // 5:06 pm - Electronics giant Sony has confirmed a recently discovered security flaw in some of its products that could leave PCs vulnerable to attack by hackers.

The firm said that the fault, which affected software packaged with memory sticks, was developed by a third-party.

Sony said it was conducting an internal investigation into the problem and would offer a fix "by mid-September".
