Game Devs Discuss Creating Truly Autonomous AI Characters 50°
November 3, 2008 // 11:54 pm - Sony's semi-official blog ThreeSpeech has posted an article that asks AI coders from a number of studios "how close are we to creating truly autonomous AI characters" in games. To quote:

To kick off, we're looking at enemies who think for themselves. How close are we to creating truly autonomous AI characters, able to react in real-time to player actions and formulate their own responses? Some developers have been experimenting with techniques such as Goal-Orientated Action Planning (GOAP) for several years in order to create 'thinking' beings.

Metroid Prime Devs Eye XBox 360 and PS3 for Future Games 50°
September 16, 2008 // 2:25 pm - Three key devs behind Nintendo's Metroid Prime series have formed a new studio called Armature, under the publishing flag of Electronic Arts.

What does that mean for us gamers, exactly? It means the prime (hah) talents behind Metroid are now free to develop games for non-Nintendo platforms.

The devs heading Armature Studios - Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Matthews, (who were the former Game Director, Art Director, and Principal Tech Engineer of the Metroid franchise, respectively) - have expressed interest in the PS3 and 360. Says Pacini:

Prince of Persia devs planned something special for PS3 owners 250°
June 21, 2008 // 2:19 pm - You may or may not be aware that there's a vote taking place on the official Prince of Persia Web site. This poll allows people to pick one of three Xbox 360 achievements for the final game.

Not much use to PS3 owners, but Ubisoft has done its best to keep us sweet. The poll itself states that PS3 fans need not take umbrage and that they have "planned something special" for us too.

SEGA signs ex-Clover Devs 50°
May 15, 2008 // 8:20 pm - Sega will release four games as part of a partnership with Japanese developer Platinum Games, founded by Resi creator Shinji Mikami and other ex-Clover big wigs.

One game for PS3 and 360, titled Bayonetta, stars a girl lead character with guns strapped to her feet, and is being directed by the Devil May Cry creator, Hideki Kamiya.

MotorStorm Devs want your Feedback! 50°
May 14, 2008 // 2:57 pm - Nigel Kershaw, MotorStorm Pacific Rift's game director, has said that its not too late give feedback on the game so that it can be improved.

Kershaw highlighted the fact the split screen mode was down to the community. If you want to let the team know your thoughts, Kershaw recommends visiting their site evos.net.
