Koller: The PSP will see Significant Growth Next Year

Koller: The PSP will see Significant Growth Next Year 50°
336w ago - SCEA's director of hardware marketing, John Koller, has repsonded to an article that said third-party PSP software support has been on a steady decline since 2006.

"I think going into next year we're going to see significant growth. We're counseling retail to be ready for it. We have a number of very strong franchise games on the docket that will be launching next year. We haven't gone public with those, and many third-parties have not yet either because they're concentrating on holiday, but we have a number of very strong titles coming."

To quote: Koller also stated that publishers were not familiar with how demographics were shifting on the PSP, leading to improperly targeted games that did not meet sales expectations.

"When we launched the PSP it launched at a 28-year old, heavily male, New York subway [demographic], and that slowly trended down. Now we're in the mid-teens with a lot of tracking even younger than that. Our research shows that in the next 12 months young moms actually are set to have the highest propensity to purchase the hardware and software for their young children."

As a result, Koller says, "a lot of publishers that were making mature-rated games...

Sony Determines What Next-Gen Is

Sony Determines What Next-Gen Is 50°
337w ago - We are now in the seventh generation of gaming consoles. What does this mean? What is next-gen gaming? The Wii, X-Box 360 and the PS3 are all considered next generation systems. In my opinion, the only console I truly consider next-gen is the PS3.

The Wii and the 360 aren't that much better than their predecessors. The 360 is just an HD version of the X-Box with better components. It has a better graphics card, processor, and an improved online service. You can buy its hardware off the shelves.

If you update your computer's hardware, is your computer going to the next generation? You would also think something that is in next generation would be considered a better working technology then the last. X-Box didn't have a 34% failure rate like the 360 does.

The Wii has more functionality then the Gamecube with its internet connectivity. It adds more motion control to the game play too, and that's about it. Graphically its better but it isn't considered HD, which is the "next generation" of entertainment. The Wii however does change how you play your games. Not quite there, but still closer then the 360. You can say that both systems are in the next generation in their line of consoles, but not in the video game industry.

The PS3 introduces breakthrough technologies to...

Criterion Games dates Burnout Bikes... and it's NEXT WEEK! 100°
337w ago - We're finally able to announce that our latest free downloadable Burnout pack bikes will be out 18th of September!!!

It's tough to give specific dates on downloadable content, because we don't know for certain until the last minute. But hey, we're really excited about bringing bikes to Burnout, so we're going to take a chance and tell you that we're aiming for September 18 - that's this coming Thursday!

If you missed our earlier posts, here's what's coming:

- Pick from 2 motorcycles featuring male or female characters and start on a whole new progression to earn your Bike License.
- 38 new against-the-clock race events - Burning Ride and Midnight Ride.
- A brand new in-game 24 hr day / night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events. (It's fully customisable - you can make it day/night/change the clock speed - it's up to you.)
- Dynamic weather brings an all-new look to Paradise City
- And if that's not enough, we've got 70 more Freeburn Challenges too

Freeburn is Burnout's uninterrupted drop-in / drop-out online play. It's a cool collaborative experience, so it's all about hanging out with your friends, messing around in vehicles while racing, pulling tricks and crashing in a massive open world city.

If 350...
