NPD: US game industry could hit $18B in '07 50°
September 14, 2007 // 3:30 pm - Yesterday, the NPD Group reported that nearly 1 billion dollars of game software, hardware, and accessories were sold in the US in August. Year to date, combined US non-PC sales for 2007 totaled $8.02 billion, up $2.42 billion from $5.6 billion during the same period in 2006. The year's first eight months saw consumers in the 50 states buy $3.1 billion in hardware, $3.8 billion in software, and $1.1 billion in accessories.

Capcom shares hit five-year high 50°
September 11, 2007 // 3:35 pm - Capcom, developer and publisher of the Resident Evil franchise, today saw its shares hit a five-year high, closing at 2,855 yen (approx $25) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Bloomberg reports that this was the highest close for the company since September 26, 2002, and that the climb was due to "expectation sales," meaning the assumption that upcoming Capcom Wii games will boost earnings. Capcom expects annual sales to rise 11 percent after doubling the number of its Wii titles to six.

September 7, 2007 // 3:01 pm - SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Lord British is back, only this time he's wielding an energy cannon instead of a sword. Oh, and you can call him General British now.

Richard Garriott, the acclaimed game designer who pioneered the genre of massive multiplayer online games, has finished his latest work, "Tabula Rasa," a science fiction-themed title he reckons will alter the way such games are played.
