David Reeves Talks Exclusivity, Unannounced Games and PSP

David Reeves Talks Exclusivity, Unannounced Games and PSP 50°
318w ago - Eurogamer (linked above) recently sat down with David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, to discuss his views on the PS3, PSP and where they both stand.

With regards to exclusive games, Reeves toed the company line, stating that "you can't live on exclusivity forever; in the end, you've got to be master of your own destiny."

To quote: By investing in third-party partnerships -- and first-party acquisitions like Guerrilla Games -- Sony removes the need to rely on publishers for exclusive content. "We don't have to go to Capcom or Take-Two and ask for an exclusive. And I don't think we could afford it anyway. In the cold light of day, I would do exactly as those publishers have done and go multi-platform."

When asked about any unannounced PS3 titles for later in the year, he indicated that "there are a couple." Look for those to be announced soon, possibly in "the next four to six weeks."

Reeves goes on to discuss the PSP, saying that the system's need for "better and more original games" has not yet been met, but that "the line-up for PSP in 2009 is two or three times stronger than it was last year."

It sounds promising, especially considering the number of great Japanese games that are in development for the system. Hopefully we'll...

Rumor: PSP UMD's to Get Partial Memory Stick Game Installs

Rumor: PSP UMD's to Get Partial Memory Stick Game Installs 100°
318w ago - TiltedScreen (linked above) reports that more publishers plan on allowing PSP UMD games to partially install on the memory sick, much in the same way that PS3 games install.

Apparently this new feature is already available with two games, to quote:

A few publishers have gotten together because of the all the large Memory Sticks on the market. They plan on allowing the PSP UMD games to install partial data on to the PSP pro duo mem stick.

The install similar to what a handful PlayStation 3 games offer. Mana Khemia: Student Alliance, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, and if a menu screen is anything to go by Irem's Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 (Disaster Report 3) will too.

Games such as Final Fantasy has a data install feature that will let you choose how much space you want to use: 243 MB, 371 MB, or 520 MB. More space means shorter load times in between battles.

Now none of these games are out yet in the US, but 2 games are already scheduled to show up state side. Will this feature help with the PSP piracy issue... or add to it, what do you think?

Leipzig Games Convention Dead, Games Convention Online Lives

Leipzig Games Convention Dead, Games Convention Online Lives 50°
318w ago - The Leipzig Games Convention, Europe's premier video games showcase, will be closing its doors in 2009 thanks to competition from Cologne's Gamescom, a new event which premieres this Summer.

To quote: Gamescom boasts the full support of the industry, which it has snatched from Leipzig's grasp. This includes acting as host for GDC Europe, which had previously been hosted at Leipzig alongside the Games Convention.

The Leipzigger Messe isn't done with games, though, as it will play host to a new event this year. Games Convention Online will take part in Leipzig between July 31 and August 2, and will focus on "the most dynamic market in the gaming industry: browser, client and mobile games." An exciting prospect, by all accounts, but we suspect it may not see as great a turnout as Gamescom might.

As if the news couldn't get any sadder, Leipzig's CEO Wolfgang Marzin says the industry can come back any time (please!). "If the industry is again in search of a platform for console and PC games and hardware with the know-how of the GC - Games Convention, we will immediately be available."

Sony is Working Harder for Gamers Than Microsoft and Nintendo

Sony is Working Harder for Gamers Than Microsoft and Nintendo 250°
318w ago - We all know who is winning the console war, but who is putting more effort into their gaming division? We break down the basics in each company's work efforts, and showed what each company has to deal with in the gaming industry.

Advertising:
Everyone knows that Microsoft is doing an excellent job with their advertising campaign. You see their advertisements all over national television, stores, and even in some cases on Mountain Dew (Halo 3). Nintendo does not advertise to quite the extent of Microsoft, but that there really is no need for it.

The Wii already has ridiculous sales and there is no need for Nintendo to waste their money on marketing. Everyone already knows what the Wii is about and putting commercials everywhere would be useless. And then comes Sony.

We all know that Sony is not on the ball with their marketing but I feel we will begin to see changes this year. We have already seen them advertise to the max with the Winter X-Games and I look for it to continue. Especially with titles like Killzone 2, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, and much more expected this year.

Microsoft:
Microsoft currently only has to deal with one platform, the Xbox 360. With one console, they have to work on games for that console as well as bring out...
