EA Whacks The Godfather II Release Plans and Delays Game

100°
317w ago - EA has revealed that The Godfather II won't be making its release later this month (GameStop lists it as shipping 2/24/2009), stating that the game will instead arrive at retail during the company's Q1 fiscal period, between April and June '09.

To quote: While curiously missing a press release announcing the delay (unlike the similarly delayed Sims 3 and Dragon Age), EA CEO John Riccitiello explained that the reason for Godfather II's delay was to generate more excitement about the title, and exercise the company's new focus on longer lead marketing.

It wasn't all marketing, however; the lingering effects of an unusually busy holiday season are also to blame. Says Riccitiello: "To be honest with you, we looked at the title, title feels very solid It will appeal to its audience well and it was likely to ship, as we had originally planned it, into a very cluttered, price reduced excess inventory channel both in North America and Europe in a heavy competitive environment. We didn't think it would get its best shot at success in [fiscal] Q4."

Let's hope the extra time spent marketing the game will give the devs at Redwood Shores some extra time to make the game as buzzworthy...

Disney Making New Tr2n Game And Tron Movie Slated for 2011?

50°
317w ago - Disney Interactive Studios is rumored to be developing a brand new Tron game, said to be released to tie-in with the new Tron movie in 2011.

If true, it is certainly going to make a lot of sci-fi geeks and gamers 'of a certain age' very happy indeed.

To quote: Disney releases the sequel to 1982's videogame-themed Tron, currently under the working title of Tr2n, in 2011.

The rumors that a game is also in development emerged from reports in Hollywood trade paper Variety, backed up by reports over on The Cut Scene blog ramping up belief in the (not really majorly surprising) rumor that a Tr2n game is in development.

Disney Interactive Studios recently laid off 30 staff at Propaganda Games (the creators of last year's Turok) and have merged two of their six internal developers, Fall Line and Avalanche, to focus on games based on Disney animated films.

Films like Tr2n perhaps? Although we would imagine Propaganda, with its focus on adult-themed games, might be better placed to handle dev duties on this one...

Stay tuned for official confirmation (or denial)...

David Reeves Talks Exclusivity, Unannounced Games and PSP

50°
317w ago - Eurogamer (linked above) recently sat down with David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, to discuss his views on the PS3, PSP and where they both stand.

With regards to exclusive games, Reeves toed the company line, stating that "you can't live on exclusivity forever; in the end, you've got to be master of your own destiny."

To quote: By investing in third-party partnerships -- and first-party acquisitions like Guerrilla Games -- Sony removes the need to rely on publishers for exclusive content. "We don't have to go to Capcom or Take-Two and ask for an exclusive. And I don't think we could afford it anyway. In the cold light of day, I would do exactly as those publishers have done and go multi-platform."

When asked about any unannounced PS3 titles for later in the year, he indicated that "there are a couple." Look for those to be announced soon, possibly in "the next four to six weeks."

Reeves goes on to discuss the PSP, saying that the system's need for "better and more original games" has not yet been met, but that "the line-up for PSP in 2009 is two or three times stronger than it was last year."

It sounds promising, especially considering the number of great Japanese games that are in development for the system. Hopefully we'll...
