Piracy on PS3: Human Traits Explain Why it Has Not Happened 750°
314w ago - Piracy of computer games is something we have all come to live with over the years. It has been around nearly as long as the games themselves, even being blames for the collapse of some consoles way back in the day. The Commodore Amiga was one such console.

I was amazed when reading a really good article on video game piracy on a website to see that people who steal this stuff, or infringe copyright as they prefer to put it as they get a little squeamish about the word thief, really do think they are justified.

Some of them see themselves as some sort of a modern day...

Combating R4 Piracy on the Nintendo DS, New Protection Used 200°
315w ago - The CEO, Andrew Mclennan, of UK based Metaforic has lifted the lid slightly on a new method of protection for Nintendo DS games.

He noted that essentially the new protection will mean that each game is its own security system, and will take a very long time to hack.

The overall aim of the new protection is to make hacking a manual job and limit the chances of automating the hacking process.

To quote: Mclennan didn't claim that Metaforic's anti-piracy tech is 100 percent hack-proof, and acknowledged that eventually, hackers with enough brains, time...

Sony: Piracy Has Taken a Big Chunk of Game Sales from PSP 300°
318w ago - Sony's Peter Dille has revealed that PSP sales have been severely affected by piracy. Dille noted that piracy is no good for anyone in the gaming industry, and the data from BitTorrent sites on how many copies are being illegally downloaded is 'sickening'.

To quote: It certainly makes business sense for Sony to switch to digital distribution, but one of the motivating factors for the new-found focus on digital distribution may be rampant piracy on the platform.

Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, believes that...

One of the main ways that Nintendo will try and battle piracy on the system is through firmware updates, in similar fashion to what Sony attempts to do with the PSP.

Nintendo also revealed that the system is region locked due to differences in age ratings for certain games.

To quote: Yarnton also went on to discuss the firm's ongoing efforts to battle the threat posed to gaming from piracy, and the measures Nintendo has taken to...

Is Microsoft's New Step to Prevent XBox 360 Piracy Enough? 500°
325w ago - Earlier today it was reported that Resident Evil 5 for Microsoft's XBox 360 Console was leaked online.

That being said, it has been pretty smooth sailing for modders of Micosofts next-gen console. Maybe its been a little too easy for them!

With the forthcoming release of MLB 2K9 and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X, Microsoft has thrown the modding community a little bit of a curveball.

Microsoft has implemented a new way in which they create discs, maybe a way...

Capcom Delays Street Fighter IV on PC Due to Piracy Concerns 400°
326w ago - While the PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers were enjoying the long awaited release of Street Fighter IV, the PC gaming community fell victim to Capcom's anti-piracy strategy.

Capcom believes they can reduce piracy on the PC by releasing the PC version of the game months after the console. This policy has failed as it would seem.

Entering "Street Fighter IV" into a torrent search engine results in numerous images of the 360's Street Fighter IV disc with thousands of downloads already completed. To add insult to injury, some of these copies went up online before the game's...

NDS Pirate Interview: Sailing the Seas of Nintendo DS Piracy 50°
332w ago - As part of an article investigating Nintendo DS piracy, an NDS pirate was interviewed to ask him his thoughts on the whole affair.

He commented that as he has access to so many games, he only plays them for five minutes before loading up something else and essentially enjoys gaming LESS.

For any pirates out there, has easy access to game also ruined your appetite for serious gaming?

To quote: Of course, these viewpoints fail to counter the fact that video game piracy is fundamentally wrong.

Games may cost a lot of money but they also cost a...
