Job Listing Suggests Microsoft is Working on 300K-player Game

300w ago - A job listing found on both Gamasutra and Microsoft's careers Web site is seeking out an engineer to work on a "game" that will support up to "300,000 players in real-time."

The job ad states that Microsoft is working on "building an extremely high performance system to extend console games to the server in new ways" and that it's "creating a completely new set of Web services" for Xbox Live and Xbox.com integration.

It sounds to us like Microsoft is planning to overhaul the Dashboard and Xbox Live service and combine it with an MMO-like system (given the 300K-player support).

Or, it could be building a separate virtual world interface like Sony's PlayStation Home. What do you think Microsoft could be working on?

MotorStorm PSP Confirmed as Listing Error

337w ago - When gamers catch glimpse of a game that hasn't been announced it's cause for much excitement. When a PSP version of MotorStorm appeared on UK retailer GAME's Web site Sony fans thought they'd stumbled upon something they weren't supposed to know about, but it seems we've all got excited over nothing.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com this morning, a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson has confirmed that the listing is a mistake and that it will be removed shortly. So there you go.

Maybe the fan excitement over the listing will give Sony a reason to consider bringing the MotorStorm series to PSP in the future, but it's not happening just yet.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is scheduled for release on PS3 later this year.
