Graphics Cards are Better than CPUs at Cracking Wi-Fi Passwords 100°
332w ago - There's a lot of software out there for cracking wireless passwords, and most of it is legal. Why? Because it's sold as a way for network administrators to 'test' their network's security.

Of course, there's nothing to stop you 'testing' a network that you don't own, in a coffee shop or airport, for example.

Most cracking programs use your PC's CPU to do the hardcore number-crunching, but it turns out that the graphics card is actually far better at doing the kinds of calculations necessary.

How good? Well, an above average quad-core CPU, the Intel Q6600...

346w ago - Knoxximus has found a method which allows 4GB SD cards (non-SDHC) to be fully utilized as a Wii storage card.

349w ago - Spare a thought for AMD and NVIDIA. They have been happily smacking each other upside the head for a decade. But at least they have been doing so safe in the knowledge that their GPUs are distinct from - and inherently superior in graphics processing terms - to CPUs.

At least, that used to be the case. Intel has now unveiled Larrabee, a co-processor based on an entirely new approach to graphics processing. If Intel has done its sums correctly, not only will the very definition of the GPU be unceremoniously defenestrated, but also AMD and NVIDIA's graphics chips could even be pummelled...
