Insomniac Games on Fuse: Your PlayStation 3 Questions Answered

Insomniac Games on Fuse: Your PlayStation 3 Questions Answered 50°
101w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman is here with some answers to Fuse PlayStation 3 questions courtesy of Insomniac Games.

To quote: During a PAX East panel over the weekend, Insomniac Games announced a May 28th North American release date for its upcoming PS3 co-op shooter Fuse.

The game blends some familiar elements of Resistance 2's large-scale co-op mode with exotic weapons powered by an all-powerful alien substance dubbed, you guessed it, "Fuse."

Given the news, we reached out to Insomniac Games President Ted Price with a list of topics we plucked from a recent Twitter call for questions. Enjoy, and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.

PSB: Games this generation have take a longer time to develop, how long have you guys been working on the Fuse concept (via jaydawg6958)?

Ted Price, President, Insomniac Games: We started working on Fuse a few years ago. It's evolved significantly since then, as all of our games have. Thematically the best way to describe Fuse is to take the dry humor and teamwork of Mission: Impossible (the new films, not the old TV show) and combine it with the crazy weapons of District 9.

That's the kind of alien...

CCP Games: Dust 514: Equipment is Your Friend on PlayStation 3

CCP Games: Dust 514: Equipment is Your Friend on PlayStation 3 50°
101w ago - CCP Games Producer Thomas "CCP Wolfman" Farrer has proclaimed that equipment is your friend in Dust 514 on PlayStation 3 today.

To quote: Success on the battlegrounds of DUST 514 is about far more than who has the biggest gun. Equipment plays a vital part in defining the role you play on the battlefield. Fit a nanite injector to your assault type II dropsuit and you're a front line medic, resurrecting your fallen team mates. Fit a repair tool and you become a combat engineer, repairing damaged dropsuits and vehicles as well as giving your squad active armour repair during a firefight.

The fondly nicknamed 'logibro' logistics dropsuits are of course the kings of battlefield equipment usage. With more equipment slots than any other dropsuit class they can carry multiple equipment types making them incredible useful squad mates. A Logistics A-Series can for example, resupply his squad with nanohives, provide tactical spawn locations with drop uplinks and keep them fighting fit with a repair tool.

It's been really interesting to see what types of equipment have been the most popular during the Beta so far. In first place we have the ever-popular Nano Hive with an epic 106,537,393 units purchased for ISK!

Following this we then have repair tools, remote explosives and lastly...

Sony Announces Unity Tools Coming for PlayStation Developers

Sony Announces Unity Tools Coming for PlayStation Developers 250°
102w ago - Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason has announced today on Sony's Blog that Unity Tools are coming for PlayStation developers!

To quote: Today, all of us at Unity Technologies are thrilled to announce a partnership with SCEA that will see Unity tools developed for PlayStation platforms!

We'll be making games built on Unity deployable to PS4, PS3, PS Vita, PS Mobile, and SCE's future cloud services.

So what is Unity? Well, it's only the most widely used game creation toolset and engine in the world. It's so popular because it's based on the idea of democratizing game development. That means making as many awesome and powerful tools available to as many developers as possible, regardless of how big or small their company or team.

Unity is elegant, efficient, approachable, extensible, and affordable. Unity makes it easy to iterate and Unity does the heavy lifting when porting games to other platforms.

Code is automatically converted, and just polish and optimization for that specific platform needs to be added. But all the other stuff - the art, the game logic, artificial intelligence, sound - everything else, remains the same.

Plenty of huge publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Kabam, Square Enix, and Nexon are using Unity...
