2.40 In-Game XMB Music Access revealed in latest PSBlog update?

2.40 In-Game XMB Music Access revealed in latest PSBlog update? 400°
349w ago - The latest Official PlayStation Blog entry may have revealed In-Game XMB Music Access, relating to the ongoing question that is "In-Game XMB Access - Will it have Music?"

On the PlayStation Blog, it lists the Burnout Paradise patch update content. To quote:

Plus heaps more, including:
- 1080i support for PlayStation 3 owners with "almost HD" sets
- Improved Standard Definition rendering for PlayStation 3
- Support for Custom Soundtracks on PlayStation 3

One thing stood out from the others.. "Support for Custom Soundtracks on PlayStation 3"

This could mean a couple of things, either each game will have it's own in game custom soundtracks, or Sony have succeeded in making In-Game XMB Music possible by just having the developer update the game to make the game compatible with the PS3's system & settings.

Of course I could be wrong, but I try to stick to the optimistic, rumor boosting, speculative side. My verdict? Yeah, it will. 2.40 will add In-Game XMB Music accessible through a PS3 version music player.

PSW Magazine: GTA IV to get In-Game Music

PSW Magazine: GTA IV to get In-Game Music 50°
359w ago - According to PSW magazine, GTA IV is set to get custom music via the in-game mobile phone. It will play any music floating around on your PS3's HDD.

This coupled with Criterion's 'Burnout Paradise' update, shows that a way has been found to get around Microsoft's in game music patent.

How this has been achieved hasn't yet been revealed, but at least its looking up for Sony. Also announced were a few other small features of the game. When in public you can get the cops called on you if you are so much as brandishing a gun in front of them.

Mini-games will include: Bowling, Darts, Drinking games.

You can do multiple missions at once.

Different NPC pedestrians will be harder or easier depending on the type of NPC (e.g. an old lady will be easy to knock down, but mid-age men will be more likely to beat you to a pulp).

The game will feature wall piercing like COD4 with the more powerful weapons. The hospitals wont take your weapons if you choose to pay $100 for the privilege.

Some NPC's will hang on to their car as you steal it. A drink of beer will make you stagger around wildly and the screen will blur.

And finaly NPC characters will speak other languages each other.

Labels deny deals on file sharing

Labels deny deals on file sharing 50°
370w ago - Three major record labels have denied signing deals allowing their music to feature on a new file-sharing service offering unlimited free downloads.

The service, Qtrax, boasted it would carry up to 30 million tracks from "all the major labels".

But Warner, EMI and Universal all say they have not licensed their music.

Qtrax said it expected an agreement to be reached with Warner and that terms had been agreed with the others even if deals had not been formally signed.

Discussions ongoing

Qtrax aims to allow users to download music from the major labels for free, with advertising revenue used to pay licensing fees.

But Warner says it "has not authorised the use of our content on Qtrax's recently-announced service".

And Universal and EMI said discussions with Qtrax were still ongoing but that licensing deals were not in place.

A spokesman for Sony BMG - the other "big four" record label - was not available for comment.

Qtrax president Allan Klepfisz said that, while a deal with Warner had not been signed, he expected terms to be agreed "shortly".

"With everyone else, we have agreed on all terms," he said.

In some cases, deals had not been formally signed,...
