Koller: The PSP will see Significant Growth Next Year

336w ago - SCEA's director of hardware marketing, John Koller, has repsonded to an article that said third-party PSP software support has been on a steady decline since 2006.

"I think going into next year we're going to see significant growth. We're counseling retail to be ready for it. We have a number of very strong franchise games on the docket that will be launching next year. We haven't gone public with those, and many third-parties have not yet either because they're concentrating on holiday, but we have a number of very strong titles coming."

To quote: Koller also stated that publishers were not familiar with how demographics were shifting on the PSP, leading to improperly targeted games that did not meet sales expectations.

"When we launched the PSP it launched at a 28-year old, heavily male, New York subway [demographic], and that slowly trended down. Now we're in the mid-teens with a lot of tracking even younger than that. Our research shows that in the next 12 months young moms actually are set to have the highest propensity to purchase the hardware and software for their young children."

As a result, Koller says, "a lot of publishers that were making mature-rated games...
 

PSPHUGO: PC Engine Emulator for PSP v1.0.3 Update out!

336w ago - Zx-81 has updated his PC-Engine/Turbografx-16 emulator PSPHUGO today. For those who haven't seen previous versions, Hu-Go is a famous emulator of NEC PC Engine console, running on many system such as Linux and Windows.

PSPHugo is a port on PSP of one latest version of Hu-Go.

Download: PSPHUGO v1.0.3 for PSP 4.X CFW / PSPHUGO v1.0.3 for PSP 1.5 FW

What's new in this version:

- Improve global emulation speed
- ISO file support but sound audio track are ignored
- Screen size 320x240 is now supported
(required for games such as R-Type)
- Add two new sound engines : mono (fast 22K or 44K) and
stereo (accurate 22K or 44K).
You may have to reset the game when you change between
mono and stereo, and save states may not work properly.
(few games are now fullspeed using audio mono 22K at 222Mhz)
- Zip rom files are now decompressed in memory (much faster !)
- Bug fix with D-pad (didn't work properly in previous versions)

336w ago - One of the latest promising emulators for PSP has been updated. OopsWare and lbicelyne have released a second version of their unofficial Final Burn Alpha LB for the PSP, based on v0.2.96.86.

There are some missing functions like Load/Save States and DIP Switch options. Nevertheless, game compatibility is pretty good and most games run at 60fps with minor slowdowns.

The Punisher: No Mercy Coming Exclusively to PSN

To quote: We here at Zen Studios are super excited to announce that we're bringing Marvel's storied franchise The Punisher to PLAYSTATION Network. Just a quick FYI - EVERYONE here at Zen Studios is a massive Marvel True Believer, so the entire team is on fire for this project.

We're calling the game The Punisher: No Mercy because that's exactly what it is - merciless. For the first time on consoles, you'll see the Marvel Universe through a first-person perspective in some intense arena-based multiplayer action.

Also, the game is being built from the ground up with some serious tech - yes, we are using the Unreal Engine 3 (the ultimate FPS engine) for this exclusive PSN release.
