MLB 09 The Show - Hear Yourself Cheer In-Game on PlayStation 3

MLB 09 The Show - Hear Yourself Cheer In-Game on PlayStation 3 200°
323w ago - Today Public Relations Manager Alex Armour announced the following news:

MLB 09 The Show is officially announced today, ready to arrive this coming Spring on the PS3, PSP, and PS2. As the market leader in the baseball category, the team did not want to rest on their laurels and churn out a lackluster effort.

For this year, the team is including a number of new features and visual detail to once again bring the best and most realistic sports gaming experience available.

Last year we allowed players to import their own music from the PS3 hard drive so they could listen in game. Now, the team has gone a step further by creating the "My MLB Music" feature. This will allow players to use the in-game music editor to create snipits of music that can be saved and used as customized walk up music for their favorite players.

Additionally, have you ever screamed at your TV at a bad (or good) play when engaged in a sports game? Well now your voice can be heard IN THE GAME by allowing users to record their own fan chants and yells and integrate them seamlessly into the ambient crowd noise. It'll sound like you're really there.

Of course the team is all over the details and as the leading baseball game simulator out there, how could they not? Transitional lighting...

Your Questions Answered: Prince of Persia for PlayStation 3

Your Questions Answered: Prince of Persia for PlayStation 3 100°
326w ago - Prince of Persia Producer Ben Mattes took the time to answer several interesting questions regarding everything from combat to the game's new art style on PlayStation 3. Here are some of them as follows:

Charliesdad asked: Wondering how you addressed the balance issues from earlier entries in the series. For example, Sands of Time was amazing, but going back to it recently the combat wore thin after a while (especially in the first big group fight) to be followed by long stretches of almost no combat. Does the new game fall on one side or the other or is there a middle ground that you all shot for and hit? And Demo tomorrow? Maybe?

Mattes: First, one of our main goals in combat was to make every fight grandiose and meaningful, to make every encounter feel more epic. Thus, we decided to make the new combat system a duel mode in which every enemy has special attributes, a unique personality, cool moves, and his strengths and weaknesses. Having one enemy to fight at one time gave us much more possibility to push this encounter to the limit.

Every enemy is as strong as the Prince and will seize his chance to use the environment, his corrupted abilities to counter every mistake the player makes. Every enemy has a background and their own personal objectives that will help...

New WipEout HD v1.20 PS3 Patch Makes Your Life Much Easier

New WipEout HD v1.20 PS3 Patch Makes Your Life Much Easier 50°
327w ago - WipEout HD is hard. If you've played the game, you probably know that and, if the newest patch is anything to go by, the developers at Studio Liverpool have also realized this.

The new WipEout HD patch v1.20 reportedly makes gaming life a whole lot easier. The patch allows you to change the difficulty setting within campaign mode to novice, skilled or elite just like in other modes. In turn, this changes the medal requirements which makes completing things a much easier task.

To quote: Updating the game to version 1.20, which will happen as soon as you start the game, will make getting medals in campaign mode a lot easier. You can now change the difficulty setting within campaign mode to novice, skilled or elite, just like in other modes. This changes the medal requirements, making completing the game a much simpler experience.

It also means the difficulty ramp for the game is far less steep, as you can blitz through on novice, then change up to skilled and then, eventually elite. The medals look different for each difficulty, so you can clearly see on which mode you've completed each task.

This doesn't help with the most difficult trophies, but at least completing the game is actually possible for normal humans. So, if you haven't played WipEout HD for a while, give it another...

Conservationists to Gamers: Turn Off Your PS3 After Use!

Conservationists to Gamers: Turn Off Your PS3 After Use! 200°
328w ago - Video game consoles left running round-the-clock can send your annual electricity bill soaring. That's probably no surprise for most gamers. But the Natural Resources Defense Council, a New York-based conservation group, has conducted a study of gaming machine energy use to raise awareness among gamers and pressure manufacturers into making more energy-efficient machines.

The NRDC's study found that Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii machines in the U.S. use about as much electricity in a year as every home in San Diego combined. Much of the energy comes from machines that are left on, but not in use, the NRDC said.

Of the three consoles, Sony's PS3 was the biggest energy hog, followed by Microsoft's Xbox 360. Nintendo's Wii is by far the most energy efficient-and even uses less electricity than its predecessor, GameCube.

To quote: With more efficient devices and by utilizing existing power-saving features, consumers could save more than $1 billion a year on utility bills and reduce as much global warming pollution per year as the tailpipe emissions from all the cars in San Jose.

Specifically, automatic power-down features - which shut off devices if they are left idle for a certain amount of time - are big energy-savers. The feature exists in...

Nintendo Wii Homebrew Channel BETA 10, AKA Your Last Chance

Nintendo Wii Homebrew Channel BETA 10, AKA Your Last Chance 200°
330w ago - Great news from marcan of Team Twiizers as follows:

As you all know, we're getting busy with several other projects, and HBC isn't a priority. However, the BETA 9 release had a few rough edges, and some things that should have been fixed weren't.

So we're giving you the chance to voice your pet peeves about HBC now, and we'll release a new version soon. Consider this version "final" at least for the time being.

HBC is basically feature-complete, so we won't be adding any new major features, but we want to get rid of some remaining bugs and annoyances. Once this new version is out, you're going to be stuck with it for a while.

Things that we've already fixed/added for BETA 10:

• meta.xml now handles non-ASCII characters properly (you can use iso-8859-1 or utf-8 encoding, but utf-8 is restricted to the iso-8859-1 subset)
• Wiimote shutdown support (in libogc git now - we should have added this earlier)
• Wiimote rumble now honors the rumble setting
• A crash bug or two (hard to hit)

Post a comment if you want something fixed. We reserve the right to fix whatever we want and ignore the rest, but at least we promise we'll listen. Please read the comments before asking for something; we don't want...
