Video: PSP Debug Firmware Running on a Retail PSP Console

Video: PSP Debug Firmware Running on a Retail PSP Console 500°
319w ago - Well there is not much information yet pertaining to how this was done, but video proof has been provided as can be seen below courtesy of 0JOhnJAck0.

Now what is the significance of this you may ask. First off, I think its pretty obvious that this could not be done before. So this demonstrates just how far devs have gone with their knowledge of the PSP.

Of course one cannot help but to wonder if this will lead to any discoveries on Sony's other gaming device, the PS3.

Until more information about how exactly this was achieved on the PSP is released, we can only hope that it may assist in getting PS3 debug firmware running on the retail PS3.

Harmonix CEO Would Love to Make an Amplitude Sequel for PS3

Harmonix CEO Would Love to Make an Amplitude Sequel for PS3 50°
319w ago - Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said in a recent interview that he would leave to make a sequel of Amplitude for the PlayStation 3 console.

He noted that the game is still close to his heart and would love to do it for the PS3. Amplitude was released back a few years ago for the PS2 and made gamers control a 'beat blaster' down a path of different shapes and lengths, containing up to six tracks.

To quote: Before Guitar Hero blew the music and rythm genre wide open, Rock Band developer Harmonix was working on smaller titles, like FreQuency and Amplitude. And though the developer has gone from a small developer of just a few dozen to a staff well into the hundreds, they haven't forgotten where it all began. In fact, they may even be doing a sequel to Amplitude.

"[Amplitude] is still close to my heart. I love it," Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said in a recent interview "I'd love to do a sequel to Amplitude, actually. I would love to come back and do it right for the PlayStation 3, for example".

As of right now Sony owns the rights to Amplitude, which would mean the title would be exclusive to the PS3.

Video: Explanation of the Incapsulation Method for PS3

Video: Explanation of the Incapsulation Method for PS3 250°
319w ago - Earlier today ps3hack89 dropped by our Chatbox to let us know of a new video by Giulio19992. For reference, don't forget to use the Submit News feature also guys, as it makes things a lot easier for the Staff here.

Moving on, the video is titled "Explanation Incapsulation Method" for the PS3, and attempts to outline what he believes is the PS3's game execution procedure, normal compared to the encapsulation method. Video is below, courtesy of YouTube!

Some thoughts on it: The video (why use a video, its two frames, use jpegs next time - was a waste of two minutes), is a mix of what we knew back in 2006 and misinformation. Of course when the system starts, and an executable is started, higher level functions authenticate it, and decides if it is valid or not, and passes it on - "Slide 1".

"Slide 2" consists of what would happen when modified, it looks QUITE a bit like a dumbed-down version of what every PS3 goes through when running a game with a patch, with the exception that the order is completely wrong.

Finally, we have no idea why .PKG is plastered all over, as soon as the PKG is installed on the PS3 it ceases to exist, it gets extracted and its...

PSP Nokia Battery Mod, Lighter And 150% Lifetime of the Original

PSP Nokia Battery Mod, Lighter And 150% Lifetime of the Original 350°
319w ago - A quick story resulting in a quick hack job... LordLeXaT's PSP battery broke, and with no money to buy a new one, he turned to his MacGyver box set to determine the best possible route... a modification that allows him to use a Nokia battery as follows:

What you see below is a standard Nokia battery (BL-5C) pack used with the original PSP battery control board. So now that all is said and done, LordLeXaT has a longer lasting battery than most of you, or so he says.

"The battery is lighter and has nearly 150% lifetime of the original 1800mAh PSP battery, and by the way, the text of the Nokia battery reads 1020mAh."

We don't have a tutorial for you, but for the most part, it seems straightforward. And please, exercise caution should you attempt this battery mod yourself.

Guide: PS3 SAK (Swiss Army Knife) for Noobs Available

Guide: PS3 SAK (Swiss Army Knife) for Noobs Available 550°
319w ago - I've decided to write this tutorial because I had some trouble with PS3 SAK and Windows sharing.

First off, you have to go into the control panel on your P.C., double-click on folder options, then click on view, and all the way at the bottom of the addvanced settings there is an option called "use simple file sharing" uncheck it and click apply and ok. This will enable you to share files between your PS3 and your PC!

Next thing you need to do is create a file on your PC (whatever you want, GAMES, PS3, anything) than right-click that folder and go into properties. From here, go into sharing and click 'share this folder' then click on permissions and click "full control". Make sure you apply all settings before exiting.

Ok now boot up that old PS3 Swiss Army Knife for step #2. Choose option 3 (Windows Share), and put in your IP address. You can get your IP address by simply going into control panel again, go into "network connections" dubble click on "local area connections" and then on support, and all your IP information will be right there.

Now it will ask you for a folder name.. put in the folder that you enabeled for sharing (duh). Then it will ask for user name (your Windows user name) and your Windows password....
