Street Fighter and Resident Evil Invade PlayStation Home on PS3

50°
317w ago - Capcom plans on supporting PlayStation Home on the PS3 in a big way. Famitsu has revealed brand new Home content based on Capcom's upcoming games, Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5.

To quote: SFIV will receive a post-release patch that will allow players to meet in Home and then jump directly into a Street Fighter match.

In addition to game launching, Capcom will also sell costumes to wear in the Home world. This isn't the first time Capcom has released Street Fighter costume DLC on a PlayStation system - LittleBigPlanet also features a handful of premium costumes for purchase.

Capcom is also developing a Resident Evil 5 game space, which looks remarkably like the game's opening level. Here, players will be able to congregate and participate in various RE themed events. We're not sure if those events will involve eating other Home users alive, but we hope so.

LEDA: Legacy Software Loader BETA v0.1 for PSP Released!

50°
317w ago - Sony PSP hacker Dark_AleX has released LEDA, the Legacy Software Loader today. LEDA integrates into M33 Custom Firmware to let you run your old 1.0 and 1.5 kernel-based homebrew apps. It also works on the PSP Slim.

Download: LEDA: Legacy Software Loader BETA v0.1 for PSP

From the ReadMe file:

Description: LEDA is a program that integrates into M33 custom firmwares to let some old 1.00/1.50 homebrew to run. To avoid waste of memory, leda is only loaded when necessary. Current compatibility is unknown as is still in beta. Although it may work on previous m33 versions, it has only be tested on 5.00 M33.

The development of LEDA doesn't mean that development of 1.50 kernel addon will be ceased. 1.50 addon is very easy to code, and thus it will still be coded for almost full 1.5 compatibility, but LEDA has some advantages over it.

Advantages:
- It works on slim too
- It doesn't need much flash space
- You don't need to care about which folder your homebrew is. LEDA first tries to load the homebrew program normally. If it works, then the homebrew is a 3.XX+ one, and leda terminates itself to not waste RAM. Otherwise, leda does some patches to load the 1.0/1.5 homebrew.
- Unlike 1.50...

For those curious, on the PS3 it will require 5GB of HDD space. Bad news indeed for people with only a 40GB PlayStation 3 console.

Apple Market Share Continues to Climb, Windows Drops

100°
317w ago - They are not dramatic changes, but they are steady and heartening to the Apple universe of users and developers. The trend continues from December numbers, and for Apple, all the trends are good.

Net Applications, a company that tracks operating system and market share by looking at results from search engines, reports that Apple has a 9.93% share of OS users for January of 2009, up from 9.63% the previous month.

Windows OS market share measured 88.26% in January, dropping slightly from 88.7% in December.

If you add in iPhone users (0.48%) to the Mac OS X data, the Apple market share is 10.41%, which again, is higher that last month.

Browser shares are also an interesting data point. Net Applications says Microsoft's Internet Explorer has the lowest market share since they began tracking browsers in 2005. IE users now comprise 67.6% of the browsers online. In the last 12 months, IE has dropped about 8%.

For the third month in a row, Mozilla's Firefox, Apple's Safari, and Google Chrome all gained market share at the expense of Microsoft. Safari's share of 8.3% is a record for Apple.

These numbers continue...

Resident Evil 5 Demo for PlayStation 3 Live on PSN Today!

400°
317w ago - Thats right, the RE5 Demo is now available on the PlayStation store!!

Download size is 942mb. To quote Capcom's Shawn Baxter:

Hey everyone, I'm Shawn Baxter (Snow) from Capcom-Unity. Our amazing Resident Evil 5 Demo goes live today on PSN, so I thought I'd tease you a bit with some of the cool things to expect, whether you're an old fan or new to the series.

One of the first things I noticed is how good the game looks. It's hard to get by the beauty RE5 has to offer. Better still, you get to play through two beautiful stages in the demo. Aside from the sweet graphics, there's plenty more that the demo has to offer.

For those new to the series, the controls can seem a bit different than you may expect. The RE brand has always forced you to take your time, stop while shooting, and conserve your ammo. It really helps add a sense of tension a normal shooter can't offer. But to help those who are new to the world of RE, we have new control types that ease things up a bit. M

y favorite is Type A, which is probably best if you're a fan of the previous games, especially RE4. Next on my list is Type D, which I find myself loving more and more. Type D is best if you're new to the game, and it offers something the...
