Wii System Menu 4.2 Released, Deletes and Blocks Homebrew

550°
283w ago - It appears Nintendo has released another Wii System Menu update today to version 4.2.

Like previous updates, this latest revision will both delete and block Wii homebrew... and in some cases destroy consoles, so be aware of this before updating your console.

It's also a mandatory update in order to access the Wii Shop Channel.

To quote: "I have NO idea why Nintendo loves to send me those update messages at midnight... alas, they keep doing it. Anyway, this time it was to let us know that the Wii has a System Update waiting: Firmware 4.2.

Now, the weird thing is, Nintendo hasn't even announced this yet! That's right, it just hits your system and no official release is made.

As such, there is not much information on what exactly this 4.2 update does exactly... Obviously, it attempts to override any form of hacking, homebrewing, or illegal software loaders (and according to reports, it does so fairly well, deleting the ever-famous Homebrew Channel and all custom IOS installed in tampered Wiis)."

Video: Gran Turismo 6 to be Released Faster and Better Planned

400°
283w ago - It is way too early for most people to even hear the words Gran Turismo 6, but not for Kazunori Yamauchi who openly talked about it.

To quote from an interview with JoyStiq, available in video format below:

"How interested are you in the PlayStation Motion Controller?

Motion controller has infinite possibilities and the level of completion of the actual device is going to be very high just from the start.

I think it's going to be very important, but as for its importance in GT, I don't think it's going to have that much of a role in the series. As for the PlayStation Eye, we're probably going to try and use it in Gran Turismo, but we can't go into details of that yet.

What are your plans for Gran Turismo 5?

GT5 is a title that was pretty much remade from scratch, but because we did that, the next version is actually going to be faster - the time period it's going to be released.

But I think when GT5 comes out, we're still going to have things that are left undone, and whether we complete that in GT6, or the next version for PSP, I'm not sure yet. I've been working very hard for the last 15 years, and I think that hard work is just going to continue."

OpenKey - LiteOn 83850c Key Decrypter for XBox 360 Released

50°
290w ago - As an alternative to FreeKey, Seacrest has released his OpenKey LiteOn 83850c drive key decrypter for XBox 360.

To quote: I just wanted to get a look at the super advanced crypto that goes into 83850c but apparently Geremia is not sharing source code for FreeKey... so one thing led to another and I ended up writing this little app while deciphering the (actually quite disappointing) algorithm. Enjoy!

Download: OpenKey v0.1 / OpenKey v0.2

This is mainly provided for curious people and I can NOT guarantee that the keys it gives you are correct (but it seems to work properly). Please don't ask me for help with this application unless you are working on integrating this functionality into JungleFlasher

OpenKey v0.2 Changelog:

• Added an additional file validity check for matching barcode data in both inquiry and serial areas
• Added automatic .bin.key creation (prompts for overwrite confirmation if the file already exists)
• Added pretty hex display

FreeKey - LiteOn 83850c Key Decrypter for XBox 360 Released

650°
290w ago - Today Geremia has released FreeKey on the XBox-Scene forums (linked above). This is a FREE decrypter tool for the XBox 360 Lite-On DG-16D2S drive with Firmware 83850c.

Yes, thats right! Just days after the release of the iXtreme 1.6 F/W for the Lite-On 83850c, hackers decided hey, why should we pay someone to "decrypt" our DVD keys like fools? We can make an app to do it our selves.

And they did, Geremia and Max slapped together an app pack that will decrypt the key from a 83850c dump made using LO83info and freekeys. Good Job!

Download: FreeKey Pack / iX1.6 AIO Pack 83850c

Also available above is the iX 1.6 AIO Pack 83850c, with the readme notes below for each:

FreeKey:

If using Windows

1 - Download and install Portio32 Package
2 - unpack Lo83info_32.exe
3 - Connect your Liteon 83850c drive to your PC via SATA
4 - Run Lo83info_32.exe (sata port) and follow the prompts
5 - A file will be saved with a drive unique name as a .bin
6 - Run...
