Confirmed: Infinity Ward Developing Call of Duty 6 for 2009!

50°
336w ago - Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith today confirmed that Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward, which most recently handled Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, will return to the franchise next year with Call of Duty 6.

"In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6," Griffith stated at today's Activision Blizzard Analyst Day. Earlier this year, the CEO revealed that a new Call of Duty game would arrive in 2009, but did not offer any other details at the time.

Confusingly, Griffith's presentation today seemed to date CoD 6 for 2010 as well. After discussing Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, which he referred to as Call of Duty 5, the CEO said that "for calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise."

Following publisher Activision's "leapfrog strategy" of alternating developers, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 6 will follow up Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, which launches on November 5 for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PS2, and Wii. Treyarch had also developed Call of Duty 3 as a part of that strategy.

Lost Mission Discovered in Call of Duty 4

200°
338w ago - A curious PC gamer has discovered a previously unseen mission in Call of Duty 4 - an extended training sequence that was dropped from the final game.

The find was reported by Infinity Ward's community chap Robert Bowling, and the video is below courtesy of aCoDModder. It shows what Infinity Ward originally had between the rifle range and the timed run through the mock house that the game uses to suggest a difficulty setting. An embarassingly low one, in my case.

Can't say the game suffers all that much for leaving it out, but it does answer one question for me: when I played, I really did wonder why they'd left that crappy-looking car outside the training building. Nice to know it was there for a reason... Enjoy!

Call of Duty 4: New Playlists and Double-XP Promo Coming?

50°
338w ago - According to Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward's director of communications, the team has an Xbox Live and PlayStation Network promotion in the pipeline for the weekend of September 13th. Exact details of the promotion haven't yet been revealed, but Bowling stated that double-experience points will be on offer for those itching to raise their in-game rank quickly.

More interesting, however, is the fact that Infinity Ward's developers are pushing hard to complete their new playlist updates in time for the promotion - making it all one-big promotion, says Bowling.

Should the team manage to get it done, and certified by both Microsoft and Sony, we could see some of the following playlists next weekend. Be aware, though, that Bowling has stated that the following list is far from final, and there's currently no telling what we'll receive.

To quote: Back from PAX means back to work, and while it's a short week thanks to Labor Day it's the one time I wish it wasn't because I have a lot of stuff to get done. I'm currently working on getting everything organized and together for an upcoming Xbox Live / PSN promotion we have coming up the weekend of Sept. 13th - 14th.

Which isn't this weekend, but next weekend. I will have exact details on what it is in the near future but...

Call of Duty 6 is already on track!

200°
342w ago - The fifth chapter of the series Call of Duty, called World at War, is not even out yet and the sixth is already announced!

This is via Robert "Bobby" Kotick, the boss of Activision, which released the information during a conference call, referring to an exit in 2009 and development back at Infinity Ward.

We knew already that it would be held in the near future. Finally, this announcement is not surprising when one knows that CoD 4: Modern Warfare is their best-selling 2007 game.

If the publisher maintains this pace of one title per year, Call of Duty 50 should be released in 2053, and will put us in the shoes of a soldier of the Roman Empire during ancient times.

Call Of Duty 4 New Multiplayer Gametypes Coming Soon?

50°
345w ago - Four new game modes could be added to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The news was struck on Robert Bowling blog, Director of Communications/Community Manager for Infinity Ward.

Here are the details of the new game modes from the blog:

"Thanks to everyone who commented, sent in emails, or contacted me via other means; including the epic presentation I received via the mail this morning containing an entire breakdown of a new game mode complete with a full-size fold out poster (thanks Ian!!).

I received a lot of great suggestions and feedback regarding new playlists you guys would like to see, and this weekend I'm going to be hosting a series of private matches in Call of Duty 4 to test them out. So if you haven't already, be sure to drop me a message on Xbox Live / PSN as I'll be cleaning off room on my friends list and inviting anyone interested to help out this weekend.

Some of the gametypes we're going to test out this weekend are:

Bare-bones Team Deathmatch

No more excuses. No more blaming Martyrdom or Juggernaut for your lack of skills and kills. Bare Bones Team Deathmatch eliminates the excuses and takes it back to basics with standard Team Deathmatch with no perks, no kill streak rewards. Just you, your skill, and your weapons.
