Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Titan DLC and Patch Delayed

400°
312w ago - Bad news from the Unreal Tournament III front. Epic Games has announced that the Titan DLC and patch for the game's PS3 version won't be going live tomorrow as planned.

Here's the announcement post from Epic's Steve Polge on the Epic Games forums (linked above):

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, the certification process for the PS3 patch and DLC has taken much longer than we expected. As a result, we have been forced to push back the release date for the PS3 version to 3/19.

The Titan DLC (which is supposed to be free, by the way) will add 16 new environments and three bonus pack maps to UT3 along with a host of other features like PS3 Trophy support and split-screen support. It also includes a Titan mutator that lets players turn into 15-foot Titans and 30-foot Behemoths.

Rumor: EA Planning to Buy Epic Games, Interested in Unreal 4.0?

100°
334w ago - Electronic Arts is hunting to rebuild its connection with the hardcore by releasing a plethora of new IP's titles that appeal specifically to a certain section of the gaming arena.

Their recent deal with an internal Epic Games Studio "People Can Fly" (creators of Painkiller) and Grasshopper Studios is just a minor step in this direction.

They are also looking out to buying out companies who have produced a quality lineup of games. After their failure to capture Take-Two Studios, the rumor mill strongly suggests that Electronic Arts are seriously contemplating in buying out Epic Games.

Their main aim is to fund the development of the next generation of Unreal technology and acquire exclusive licensing rights over it (Unreal 4.0). This also means that we might be witness to the next Unreal Tournament game and Gears of War sequel being published by Electronic Arts as well.

A minor step in this direction has already taken place with an EA employee being shifted to Microsoft in the development of "Gears of War 2" to ascertain the potential and viability of the series in the future.

Westwood (EA Pacific), Maxis, Bioware, Pandemic and now the target is setting to shift to Delta Squad and its components, the question is will we be ready if all this epic transaction...

UT4 release expected alongside Unreal Engine 4.0 completion

351w ago - Looking forward to the next next-gen (8th console generation) Unreal Engine 4.0 is expected to be released with Unreal Tournament 4 to show off its prowess, as with every new Unreal Engine comes a showpiece, usually an Unreal game.

An example of this happened before the release of Unreal Engine 3, when Epic Games' own projects – Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 2007 (later renamed to Unreal Tournament 3) – were touted as the company's showcase titles for the latest Unreal technology.

Back in August 2005, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein revealed that the creators of the Unreal games and technology have already begun work [two years before in 2003] on what will eventually become Unreal Engine 4.

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney, who's been working on the Unreal Engine 4 core system design as the technical director, said in March 2008: "There is a long life ahead for Unreal Engine 3. [Unreal Engine] Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft's successor for the Xbox 360 [AKA Xbox 720], Sony's successor for the PlayStation 3 [AKA PlayStation 4] - and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs [AKA Wii 2], then that also. PCs will follow after that."

Mark Rein later clarified that Tim Sweeney meant that Unreal...
