Sony Offers a Closer Look at LittleBigPlanet 3's New PS4 Characters

Sony Offers a Closer Look at LittleBigPlanet 3's New PS4 Characters 50°
37w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton offers a closer look today at LittleBigPlanet 3's new PS4 characters with details below, as follows:

One of the big surprises of E3 week was seeing LittleBigPlanet 3 unveiled live on stage during the PlayStation media briefing.

If you haven't got yourself up to speed already, Sackboy is all set to make his PS4 debut this November. Along with a raft of new features for Create mode, the major new additions to the series come in the form of three new playable characters: Swoop, Oddsock and Toggle.

"We've spent a long time working on the characters," explained XDev's Pete Smith backstage at LA. "Not just making sure that they look distinctive but also that they each offer unique gameplay. That, for me, is the big thing.

We want people to go 'Wow, they really change up the game, and I can create totally new experiences with them'.

"We were also keen to make sure that they were very iconic from a silhouette point of view, so that when you look at them together you can instantly tell them apart. Yet we still wanted them to feel like they were part of the Sackboy family, rather than just a watered down version of the same character."

Indeed, having played through hugely enjoyable E3 demo a few times over, I can confirm that...

Video: A Closer Look at Grim Fandango's Surprise Revival

Video: A Closer Look at Grim Fandango's Surprise Revival 50°
38w ago - 2 Player Productions Director of Photography Asif Siddiky takes a closer look at Grim Fandango's surprise revival in a video below today.

To quote: Hi, we're 2 Player Productions, the documentary team that brought you Penny Arcade: The Series, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, and the Kickstarter-funded Double Fine Adventure!

Two years ago, we teamed up with Double Fine Productions to prove that "Adventure Games are not dead!"

Well, they're dead now, but in the way you've always wanted them to be! Tim Schafer's beloved LucasArts classic Grim Fandango is back, and we've put together this short retrospective documentary to get you primed for its upcoming release.

Over the fifteen years since its debut, adventure game enthusiasts have longed for the opportunity to revisit Schafer's neo-noir take on Mexican folklore, but unless you still had the original (now out-of-print) discs, there was no official, LucasArts-sanctioned way to play it.

When Disney and LucasArts began licensing their properties to other developers last year, Double Fine reached out to arrange a deal that would allow them to resurrect Manny Calavera, travel agent...

Slightly Mad Studios Offers a First Look at Project CARS on PS4

Slightly Mad Studios Offers a First Look at Project CARS on PS4 100°
44w ago - Today Creative Director Andy Tudor at Slightly Mad Studios offers a first look at their project CARS on PS4 with details below.

To quote: If you haven't heard about it already, Project CARS is a bit different. Different in the philosophy of freedom that runs throughout the entire game, and different in how it's being created - by YOU, the gamers!

Project CARS was conceived back in October 2011 (Wow, time flies!) as a natural continuation of our work on two of racing's biggest franchises - Need For Speed and Test Drive - and as a return to our roots when we created GTR and GT Legends.

Back when we were conceiving the idea, we knew we wanted to create a racing game that covered a wide range of different car types and motorsports, and gave you the freedom to play and experiment with them however you wanted.

We wanted the core driving experience to be the most authentic on the planet, and we wanted to provide you with all the features you need to recreate a race weekend as it happens in real life - complete with a dynamic time of day and a weather system that not only looks beautiful but challenges your skills and provides strategic opportunities.

And we wanted to connect players together with a variety of online and community features - time trials, events,...

Video: First Look: Behind the Terror of Alien: Isolation on PS4

Video: First Look: Behind the Terror of Alien: Isolation on PS4 100°
49w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman shared a first look behind the terror today of Alien: Isolation on PS4 and PS3 consoles alongside a video and interview below.

To quote: Alone, unprepared, and unarmed, Amanda Ripley is forced to match wits with death itself in Alien: Isolation.

The Creative Assembly's deeply immersive and fanatically detailed survival-horror game returns to the roots of the Alien film franchise - no pulse rifles or space marines here, just you, your wits, and the galaxy's most feared predator.

To better understand the "lo-fi sci-fi" origin of Alien: Isolation on PS3 and PS4, we asked Creative Lead Alistair Hope for insight into the team's development process. From design philosophies to the technical possibilities of PS4, Hope reveals a host of insights on the development of Alien: Isolation.

Watch our new video interview, read our Q&A with Alistair, and leave your questions in the comments!

PlayStation.Blog: So far, Isolation's concept seems to be an intimate one, with Amanda Ripley squaring off against a single Alien. What gave you the inspiration to take the "back to basics" approach?

Alistair Hope: From the start we wanted to make a game that took the player back to the roots of the series - back to Ridley...
