390w ago - Seriously, Sony's upcoming MLB 08 may have the longest list of features we've ever seen for a game, regardless of genre. The massive fact sheet released today has us scratching our heads in bewilderment, so much so that we simply had to provide you the entire list (after the break). Highlights include the ability to add your own custom soundtrack, online integration with MLB.com, and online stats tracking that will match players with similarly skilled opponents.

Take-Two future in jeopardy due to GTA 4 delay 50°
390w ago - The delay of Grand Theft Auto 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360 did more than upset millions of gamers anxiously awaiting its release -- it further complicated Take-Two's ongoing attempts to return to profitability.

According to The Street, the publisher could run out of both cash and credit reserves as soon as January or February, making the spring release of GTA 4 that much more crucial to the publisher's survival.

As a result, an incredible 32 percent of company stock is outstanding, meaning investors are anything but confident with Rockstar's sugar daddy at the moment.

Sony caught violating GPL 50°
391w ago - Maker of exploding batteries, Sony has been illegally dipping its toe into Open Sauce code libraries to build a PS2 game.

Open sourcer, Alexander Strange was snuffling around the European release of the game ICO when he noticed new files SRCFILE.TXT and TRFILE.TXT and had a look at them.

In amongst the tangled code were bits of the GPL library libarc for compressed data handling.

Sony, which is a big champion of protecting creative rights, has failed to credit the code's author or mention libarc or the GPL.

Strange said that there was not a lot...

394w ago - Japanese electronics giant pulls out of research and production facilities for high-powered processor; ramps investment in image-sensor tech.

The Cell processor has been both a boon and a burden for Sony. The high-octane processor at the heart of the PlayStation 3 has given Sony's console a competitive edge in performance potential for the current generation of gaming hardware. However, its development has also inflicted a significant dent on the Japanese electronics giant's bottom line, costing Sony approximately $1.7 billion alone, according to recent estimates by financial news...

PS3 development was easy, says COD4 developer 50°
395w ago - It's been a common excuse for underwhelming early PS3 releases, but according to Infinity Ward, the developer of the Call of Duty series, developing the game on the PlayStation 3 was easy.

Many a developer has moaned at the complexity of the code behind sony's next-gen console, but there were no problems for Infinity Ward as they worked on the newly released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

They put their success down to the fact that they do not dedicated more energy to one platform - and in fact spread out resources and split up teams to work on the game across the different...

Source: Sony asking developers to stick with PS3 50°
397w ago - A new report published Friday by the Mercury News suggests that Sony may already be scrambling to keep third-party developers aboard the PlayStation 3, which has struggled to keep pace with the Wii and Xbox 360.

"One piece of news that came out this week was that Sony pleaded with third-party developers not to abandon its struggling [PS3] platform," wrote Dean Takahashi of the San Jose Mercury News.

"That change in attitude is a marked difference compared to the arrogance of past years," the game journalist added. "The argument is that the PS3 will show its strength as...
