Lite-On DH-401S can read Sony PS3 game discs!

Lite-On DH-401S can read Sony PS3 game discs! 300°
359w ago - We received this tip via e-mail today: Jan70 (an Administrator) of CDFreaks.com has reported that the Lite-On DH-401S drive can read Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs!

Sure, we've been dumping PS3 images since 6 days after the U.S. launch HERE, however, the big difference is that now users won't have to do it through Linux nor via PS3 SAK anymore... providing they own a Lite-On DH-401S drive.

Of course this doesn't mean they are playable on retail PS3 consoles though (like Linux/SAK image dumps, the PS3 sees the media as a data disc instead of a game disc).

VERY nice find Jan70, and below are a few screenshots and a directory layout for Lost Planet!

Volume in drive N is LOSTPLANET
Volume Serial Number is F29E-03F1

Directory of N:

Has Sony Europe messed things up yet again?!

Has Sony Europe messed things up yet again?! 250°
359w ago - So, we got the new PS Store today... in short, it's lovely. From the little 'plinky' piano sound when it opens, to the nice fading page animations - it's a joy to navigate.

However, while navigating is a joy, Sony Europe have made their usual hash of things - their categorization completely sucks.

On the UK store the main categories are:

Latest
All Games
Game Add-Ons
Videos
PSP Games
Family Games
'other' media (what?!)
We recommend

This is just crazy... so if you're looking for a demo, you need to either go to latest, or if it's not there, look in all games - which are sorted into sub groups by genre, not title. Also, all PSOne games are mixed in with the genres... so if you want a PSone game you need to find it in the melange of other titles... is Sony Europe bonkers?

On the USA store:

New Releases
Downloadable Games
View All by Title
Add-ons
Demos
Videos
Themes and Wallpapers
Featured Items

These categories make perfect sense - you can find the same piece of content multiple ways, and if you go to 'downloadable games' the titles are split by platform (PS3, PSP, PS Eye, PSone Classics) and other sorting (top downloads, genre, alphabetical)......

Sony: PS3 Home BETA for public opening very soon

Sony: PS3 Home BETA for public opening very soon 250°
361w ago - Susan Panico, Senior Director of the PlayStation Network has stated in the latest edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine that "we'll be opening up the Home BETA to the public very soon and hope to see you there."

Hopefully April will be the month where all will be available.

To quote user patches 4 socom 3: I just got the may issue and the last page has an article from Susan Panico Senior Director of the PlayStation Network.

At the end of it she says "we'll be opening up the Home BETA to the public very soon and hope to see you there." I hope April is the month for it! but then again Metal Gear Online BETA, GTA 4... I could fit in the Home BETA... lol :P

SCEE quiet on 2.30 details, how new PS Store will be deployed

SCEE quiet on 2.30 details, how new PS Store will be deployed 50°
361w ago - SCEE refused to be drawn on details of Firmware 2.30 this morning, following yesterday's confirmation that the PS3 software update would be needed to use the new version of PlayStation Store, to be released in mid-April in both the US and Europe.

To quote: We have made no official announcement of the details of Firmware 2.30 or exactly how the new Store will be deployed, a rep stated.

If the information released yesterday was correct, there should be a full Firmware release in the next two weeks, straight off the back of 2.20, which added BD-Live functionality only last week. Time will tell for sure...

GT5 Prologue finally on PSN, Sony say sorry

GT5 Prologue finally on PSN, Sony say sorry 50°
362w ago - GT5 Prologue has finally been released on the PlayStation Store in Europe.

Sony earlier apologized for the delay on its forums saying "We'd like to apologize for the lack of a PS Store refresh yesterday. Unfortunately we experienced some last minute technical difficulties and were unable to publish the new content as planned. We are working hard to resolve these issues and content will be refreshed as soon as possible."

Three Speech haved also chimed in with a statement, which is also out of date now too. "'Unfortunately due to some last minute technical difficulties, we were unable to publish the new content to the PS Store yesterday. We are working to resolve these issues and will let you know as soon as new content is posted," it reads.
