Sony won't Comment on LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation Portable 50°
September 30, 2008 // 8:05 pm - Pete Smith, Sony Producer for LittleBigPlanet, was recently asked about the potential for a LittleBigPlanet spin-off on the PSP.

Smith refused to comment on the issue though. Earlier this year, Future Publishing rumored that LittleBigPlanet was in development for PSP at Sony Studio Liverpool, and that the game would apparently link up with the PS3 version of the game.

To quote: For all their transparency, the Media Molecule guys are still keeping some plans to themselves. One of them is any potential spin-off on the PSP, something on which Smith refused to comment....

Sony: Life with PlayStation Released by Mistake 400°
September 17, 2008 // 4:08 pm - Sony has told CVG that today's surprise launch of the PS3's news and weather channel, Life with PlayStation, was a mistake.

The channel went live earlier today, surprising the lucky few who stumbled across the update and managed to get it all installed before Sony whipped it back offline again.

The 126MB download changes the [email protected] app into the new Life with PlayStation channel ([email protected] does its cancer-curing job in the background while you read the news), but the update is no longer available.

"Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation...

Sony Unaware of Any Slow PlayStation 3 PSN Download Speeds 300°
September 15, 2008 // 8:22 pm - Gamers and journalists alike have complained about the slow download speeds on PSN. "I would say PSN is generally slower than other services, especially wireless," says Chris Morell, senior editor and PlayStation liaison at GamePro.

However, Sony's director of communications Patrick Seybold has responded by saying that he hasn't noticed this at all, and "I have both [a 360 and Wii] at home and downloads are comparable if not slightly quicker for PS3. Of course, that's just my experience."

To quote: Two weeks ago, it took a frustrating six hours to download...

Sony about to Revolutionize Online: PlayStation Home! 50°
August 13, 2008 // 8:15 pm - Sony's Home is one of the most highly anticipated titles on the PlayStation 3, and it has the potential to revolutionise the way users interact online. However, there's no doubt it's taken a long time to come to fruition.

At the Sony E3 2008 press conference, the company reiterated Home's importance to the platform and promised that it would release an open beta in the third quarter of 2008.

Home is designed to bring together Sony's three key interests: gaming, music, and movies. The home square is the embodiment of this intention and houses a gaming arcade, a movie theatre,...

Sony: Life with PlayStation Delayed, Launches in August 100°
August 1, 2008 // 1:36 pm - Despite being previously announced for a July debut last month by Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai, SCEA company senior development manager Noam Rimon has revealed that Life with PlayStation will launch in August.

Rimon attributed the unexpected delay to "a few procedural matters." From what was shown to Japanese press, the service will allow PS3 owners to interact with a virtual Google Maps-esque globe presented in 3D, offering convenient access to weather data and news headlines from around the world.

Sony CECHL01 PlayStation 3 introduced into FCC database 50°
July 28, 2008 // 2:34 pm - A new PlayStation 3 console was approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission last week, according to the agency's online filings database.

No information on the new model, number CECHL01, is available at present from the filing because Sony was granted short-term confidentiality on the papers but it is likely the 80G-byte version announced earlier this month during the E3 games show in Los Angeles. The console is due on sale in the next couple of months and will replace the current 40G-byte model.

Sony's Big Plans for MMO Gaming on the PlayStation 3 200°
July 19, 2008 // 2:35 pm - Sony is planning on bringing gamers together in a bigger way than ever before. The PlayStation E3 2008 press conference introduced large scale multiplayer gaming plans for the PS3 with MAG, short for "Massive Action Game." The game is touting 256 player battles. It's a big effort in itself, but not the only one planned for the PS3.

Sony Online Entertainment's PS3 games will also support MMO and persistent gaming (where things keep happening in the world while you're away). Games like The Agency and DC Universe Online will offer co-op and competitive play. The Agency will offer an...
