Running PSP Games on PlayStation Vita with a PS3 is Revealed

Running PSP Games on PlayStation Vita with a PS3 is Revealed 750°
157w ago - Following up on our previous article demonstrating several PS3 games running on PS Vita through Remote Play, this weekend CNET (linked above) reports on how to get many PSP games (that aren't showing up on PSN yet) to run on the PlayStation Vita handheld as well.

Below are the details, to quote: "Sony says the list of backward-compatible games will continue to grow, but why wait? There are actually plenty of other PSP games you can play on your PS Vita right now, but you'll need a PS3 to make it happen. They may not be listed on Sony's backward-compatibility list, but they certainly work.

So, here's the trick, which has been discussed on many message boards: while you can browse the PS Store to see what older downloadable PSP content is available for purchase or redownload, you're not getting the full picture of the whole PSP catalog. Instead, browse your download list via Transaction Management on your PSN account on the PlayStation 3, and download any PSP games. The PS3 will store PSP games and allow a PSP- or, a Vita- to sync the content.

Connect your PS Vita to the PS3 via USB cable...

Sony Unveils Nine PlayStation Vita Tips and Tricks for Gamers 650°
157w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has unveiled nine tips and tricks for next-generation handheld gamers below today!

To quote: If you've picked up PS Vita then you've probably been too busy plowing through the dense launch line-up to have spent much time browsing the Settings menu.

Luckily, you don't need to - we've spent plenty of time with PlayStation's new crown jewel and we've put together a few favorite tips and tricks we wanted to share. Of course, this is just a start: We want your tips, too!

If you've discovered any favorite PS Vita functions, please share them in the comments for all to enjoy this weekend.

1. Order in the court! By now, you've probably figured out how to move your game and app bubbles around the Home Menu by pressing and holding one using the front touchscreen, enabling you to drag it around into different frame.

You can even change the background color or image by tapping the theme icon in the bottom right of each frame. Get creative and design your own background images (which you can transfer to your PS Vita via PS3) like James Gallagher from the EU PlayStation Blog did here.

2. Let there be light. You can adjust your PS Vita's OLED screen brightness mid-game without the hassle of jumping...

Video: Borderlands 2 PS3 Gameplay Trailer, Release Date Revealed 250°
158w ago - Gearbox Software Community Manager Chris Faylor has made available a Borderlands 2 PS3 gameplay trailer today along with revealing the title's official release date!

To quote: When I say that Borderlands changed my life, it's no exaggeration. It was the way that the game rewarded each and every action that got me. Every enemy I gunned down, every chest I opened brought a feeling of accomplishment and progression.

So when I had the opportunity to join the team at Gearbox Software, I moved halfway across the country without a moment's hesitation. Ever since, I've been seeing things that amaze me, things I know our fans will absolutely love. Things I haven't been able to talk about... until today.

Because today, we're blowing the lid off of Borderlands 2. We've got a new trailer, and if you haven't already skimmed down and hit Play, let me tell you what you're in for. You're going to meet the four new playable characters. You're going to catch a glimpse of the colorful new environments and areas you'll be fighting through.

You're going to see what you're up against, from new enemies like the multi-armed Bullymong and the robotic Loaders to the man with the plan to destroy you and everyone else on the planet, Handsome Jack. You're going to see a fraction...

European PSN Game Store Updates for February 22, 2012

European PSN Game Store Updates for February 22, 2012 200°
158w ago - Today Jawad Ashraf of the PlayStation Store Team has posted up this weeks European PSN updates below, as follows:

Hello again gamers! As I'm sure some of you will be busy with your new PlayStation Vitas, you may have forgotten about the usual update. No matter, I hope this serves as a good reminder to you.

The Starhawk Beta, previously a PS Plus member's exclusive, is now available for all to take part in.

Word of warning the beta is only up until March 7th so be sure to at least give it a try before you regret it, because we've all fallen into that "I'll check it later" scenario.

SSX also gets a demo heading onto the PS Store. Also of note, this too is only available for a limited time. Looks like time must be spent wisely this week. The demo includes online play and a new feature dubbed RiderNet.

With a handful of modes to check out, player's ghosts of race times and scores will be uploaded to the SSX server. RiderNet will recommend challenges as players take on their friends' ghosts or let their own ghosts chalk up wins and losses, even while they're away from their console. Some of the features to look out for include;

•JT2, a race event in the Rockies and Bulldog, a night time trick event in New Zealand
•You'll...

Sony on Combating Piracy with PS Vita Proprietary Game Cards

Sony on Combating Piracy with PS Vita Proprietary Game Cards 700°
158w ago - Today Scott Rhodes of Sony Worldwide Operations was asked in an interview with GamaSutra.com how they are combating piracy on the PS Vita platform, who responded that proprietary PlayStation Vita Game Cards are currently being used.

Below is an excerpt from the interview with the details, to quote: "Sony's been very, very open about the fact that piracy really hurt the PSP, so I was wondering if you could dive into a little bit about the efforts you've put into preventing that this time.

SR: That was front and center in the early specs of this machine. We needed to have something that would combat piracy from day one, and that's why the cards that you can purchase for the games are in their own proprietary format.

And these days, so many people say the word "proprietary" is a bad word, but it's something that we felt was completely necessary to make sure that people could not pirate these games. I mean, it's a custom security solution on each one of these cartridges. That is something that we are confident will protect us from piracy for the long term."
