PSP-3000 Entertainment Pack Cancelled, Unrelated to Recalls

PSP-3000 Entertainment Pack Cancelled, Unrelated to Recalls 50°
331w ago - SCEA's Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller announced that they have seen significant interest in the Ratchet & Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack in North America, which includes the updated PSP-3000.

As a result, they will be streamlining their PSP hardware lineup and will no longer be offering the previously announced 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack.

Many customers had received e-mails from online retailers to inform them that their orders for the 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack had been cancelled.

This fueled rumors that there could be a recall of the PSP-3000 because of scanline issues with its screen. Consumers who are interested in a larger capacity memory option can purchase a 4GB PSP Memory Stick PRO Duo, which will be available this fall for $44.99 (MSRP).

Speed up your PlayStation Network Downloads with Auto-Installs!

Speed up your PlayStation Network Downloads with Auto-Installs! 100°
331w ago - Tonight I was downloading some content I had been missing out on the last week due to band rehersals and some light work here and there...

Now normally I would've just background-downloaded all of my stuff and walked away from it until it was done - I'm glad I didn't.

A big complaint with the PSN is the fact when you download something of the store you then have to install it. This means the long process becomes longer...

Well, tonight I found out that if you que up all you want to download and individually download it from the store menu or your drop down download list, without doing a background download, it not only increased my speed from an average of 1MB every 4 seconds to 1MB every 1 second to 2 seconds, but it also pre-installs your content for you. So you don't have to go back out and manually do it from your PlayStation 3 XMB.

Now, I have a fast connection and I often average 1MB per second anyways, but a lot of times it's not a constant 1MB per second... Sometimes it drops down to where I am only getting 1mb every 3 to 4 seconds - With this method it was much faster than just putting them all on the background and letting it do it for me.

It might not be as convenient, but it sure went a lot faster. I got over 1.4GB of downloads in under 7 minutes flat...

Future Firmware Updates to Allow PS3's CPU Power Use on PSP?

Future Firmware Updates to Allow PS3's CPU Power Use on PSP? 100°
331w ago - It has been revealed that future Firmware updates may enable the PlayStation Portable to cope with more processing while using computational resources on the PS3 for areas where the PSP lacks resources.

So we could have some seriously strong interaction between the two systems - processor sharing, here we come baby!

To quote: SCE (Matsui) on future firmware updates:

In future updates, there are thoughts of raising the level of interaction, in the sense of "interactive entertainment".

Among those ideas are enabling the PSP to cope with more processing while using computational resources on the PS3 side for areas where the PSP lacks resources, so we think that interaction between the two systems will be possible by having them successfully complement each other.

In addition, as with Life with PlayStation, we take the approach of making the PS3 something people will use from when they wake up, like switching it on to watch the news in the morning.

Since we believe that there must still be many areas in with both the PS3 and PSP can be of use in people's daily lives, we want to continue to make firmware updates with this perspective in mind.

Wii Shop And IOS51 Installer v1 and v2 Available!

Wii Shop And IOS51 Installer v1 and v2 Available! 50°
332w ago - Since the recent news that the new Wii System Menu Update Blocks the Homebrew Channel, Muzer has released Wii Shop and IOS51 installer to circumvent it.

Download: Wii Shop and IOS51 Installer v1 / Wii Shop and IOS51 Installer v2 (includes bugfix)

To quote: Wii Shop and IOS51 installer is a very quick modification of PatchMii modified by Muzer that does one thing: It installs the new IOS51 and Wii Shop Channel, without installing the patches to all the other IOSes. This means that as long as you didn't update, you can now install this to use the Wii Shop Channel but keep all the benefits of not having the update.

Anybody at all could have made this, just everyone is too busy at the moment, so I figured I would make it. It's literally modifying 4 lines of code and commenting out a bunch of stuff. Because of this I didn't bother to include the source in the package, but if anyone wants me to, I'll happily include it.

This does not have the same effects as updating, so you get the best of both worlds. You can do this on any system menu version and it will work fine,...

Blu-ray Surpasses 30% of all DVD Recorder/Player Shipments

Blu-ray Surpasses 30% of all DVD Recorder/Player Shipments 50°
332w ago - We knew Japan was warming up to Blu-ray, but apparently those tepid desires have morphed into infernos of passion.

According to new statistics loosed by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), Blu-ray Disc recorder / player shipments hit a level of 138,000, or around 107 times more than the shipments posted a year ago.

Moreover, those shipments accounted for 31% of "overall shipments of DVD equipment on a volume basis."

Unsurprisingly, BD equipment -- coupled with flat-panel TVs -- were the two biggest drivers of consumer electronics shipments in Japan this year, with visual equipment shipments rising 8.2% year-over-year.

Blu-ray and HDTV: a match made in heaven. Or Tokyo.
