StreamMyGame launches Linux player, Play PC games on your PS3 250°
372w ago - StreamMyGame announced today the release of its free Linux Player, an application that enables you to play any PC game via a PlayStation 3 running Linux.

The free StreamMyGame Server enables PC games to be played remotely by converting the game's video and audio into a Game Stream and sending it over a home network to a second computer where you can view and play the game with the free StreamMyGame Player.

The second computer can be a PC, laptop, PS3 or Linux device. The game can be played on the second computer without any lag and the second computer does not need to have the game installed.

The StreamMyGame Server is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and all computer games based on Microsoft's DirectX8, DirectX9, DirectX10 including the latest games such as PES 2008 and Crysis and OpenGL standards.

The StreamMyGame Player is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Linux with resolutions up to Super HDTV 3200 x 2400. Compatible Linux installations include Ubuntu and Yellow Dog Linux, recommended by Sony for the PS3.

"Playing the latest PC game on the PS3 is now a reality at HD resolution and fast frame-rates," said Richard Faria CEO. "I have a PS3 in my living room and PC in my office and my two kids both have old PCs in their...

PS3 gets unofficial regional user faces

PS3 gets unofficial regional user faces 50°
372w ago - McBacon was playing around with the XMB options and noticed that you can change the happy faces in the user menu but there is no regional icons options.

He expects that this was probably due to Sony not encouraging multiple accounts across different countries but he himself has gone on and created small custom ones.

To quote: So I was messing around in the XMB and noticed that you can change the little happy faces in the Users menu, but I was shocked to see that Sony didn't include any regional icons.

They probably don't want to encourage multiple accounts across different countries, but as most of us at GAF do so I created these little custom ones.

P3DXLoad Video available!

P3DXLoad Video available! 50°
372w ago - This video is not related to anything the PS3 Devs are doing here, but until their next news update (hopefully tonight!) those interested can check out this video mailed to us from Erik.

Although it looks like some super-cool PS3 Loader in the video, it's likely just an edited save file only which is why we uploaded it under the 'entertainment' YouTube category.

Enjoy guys, at least there is some humor between the more serious Dev reports eh?

PS3: Patches Ahoy!

PS3: Patches Ahoy! 500°
372w ago - Another brief update based on the yesterday's findings: the PS3 Flash is quite accessible as the majority of it is mounted inside the PS3 as a filesystem (think PSP), and is able to be read/written.

A picture is below for a peek at a partial filelist. As you can see there are quite a few sprx's. These are encrypted of course, however they function quite the same as their PSP counterparts. For the majority of the PS3 OS's functions, there is a sprx that is tasked to do the job.

For the big chunk of interesting news: Every single scene release ever released for PS3 will not work without being patched.

Why? It is because backup PS3 images lack some data that we will call a key. On an original, when the disc is inserted, the PS3 reads the key, and it is used to decrypt any encrypted files on disc (the DISC layer of encryption). On a backup, the PS3 can not read this key so it will not be able to decrypt the file. Of course if a hardware mod surfaces this could change.

Making a patch is simple though, use an original disc, copy the file back off through the PS3 OS, and rebuild (we are currently using a modified BRDGen for our tinkering). This is being done via debug machine as we can both make and run our own code on it, but should retail consoles ever be able to run backups it may...
