Sega's Viking gruesomely addictive

Sega's Viking gruesomely addictive 250°
361w ago - Chris Kohler over at Wired reports: For a game that doesn't do any one thing particularly well, why is Viking: Battle For Asgard so much fun?

Put simply, it's because the developers of this Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game understand what turns a player into an addict. Viking's medieval sword-and-axe combat is merely alright, the visuals won't wow you, and the story is barely there. But the game's gradually expanding world ramps up perfectly, constantly teasing you with one more goal just out of reach, then another, then another.

Next thing you know, it's three in the morning and you can't remember how many legions of monsters you've slaughtered.

Viking is the story of a lone warrior tasked by the Norse goddess Freya to beat back the horrific armies of the death-goddess Hel, who has taken over the land of Midgard. To do it, you've got to liberate your fellow warriors and take back key military locations like quarries and lumberyards, so you'll be ready for a series of full-scale, thousand-man assaults on enemy strongholds.

One reason why Viking is so compelling is that it realizes its core competency and sticks closely to it. Although the setup makes the game sound like some sort of military tactics sim, and the open world brings to mind role-playing games like Fable, it's...

361w ago - According to the Dutch PSOnly Web site linked above, the DualShock 3 controller will be released in Europe on May 2nd.

The site points to a reliable source giving them the news, but of course nothing specific is mentioned about the source.

To quote via rough Babelfish translation: Gaming Only have learned from reliable sources that the DualShock 3 on 2 May must stretch in European. The DualShock 3 controller will contain, just like the DualShock and DualShock 2, rumble. Moreover the DualShock contain 3 also the trusted Sixaxis sensor.

What the DualShock 3 here will cost, is to have unfortunately not yet confessed. The controller already as from November 2007 in the Japanese shops, and as from April also in America will be available.

Condemned 2 on PS3 plagued with audio issues

Condemned 2 on PS3 plagued with audio issues 50°
361w ago - According to reports, owners of Condemned 2 on the PS3 are reporting that the game's audio seems to snap or drop out during the game, particularly within the first level.

Sega has responded by saying that it is investaging the issue but indicates using a regular AV cable instead of a HDMI cable should work as a quick fix for the time being.

To quote: According to a post on Sega's forums, Sega is currently investigating the cause of the problem, but suggests that using a standard AV cable, instead of an HDMI cable, should fix things in the mean time.

The audio is an integral part of Condemned 2's gloomy and creepy atmosphere. Having it drop out every thirty seconds, as some reports claim is happening with the PS3 version, would all but ruin the immersion and experience.

Hopefully Sega will release a patch to solve the problem soon.

GT5 Prologue agreement missing vital information, can't play offline

GT5 Prologue agreement missing vital information, can't play offline 50°
361w ago - To quote west79: Hi, I would like to inform everybody that the European PSN Store version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has some serious issues about the terms of service user agreement.

First of all, for playing you need to have your PSN Account connected to the network like Warhawk, yes, it means you can't play it offline.

In other news the game can't be shared between different accounts. It's linked only to the PSN user that bought the game itself, while the license doesn't inform the user about this before buying, unlike Warhawk as you can see in this picture I took.
