PS3 CoD4 Double XP and 'Play With Infinity Ward' Planned

100°
359w ago - The new Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack is still undergoing certification by Sony.

Things are probably busy on Sony's side with the upcoming re-launch of the PLAYSTATION Store and all the new content coming in the weeks ahead. No firm release date has been confirmed just yet.

In the meantime, Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling assures PLAYSTATION 3 CoD4 gamers that there will be a Double XP weekend and a "Play With Infinity Ward" event when the Map Pack is released.

Xbox 360 CoD4 gamers will have the Call of Duty 4 LIVE Fire Weekend 2008 this upcoming weekend, and previously had the Double XP event when the Map Pack was released for the Xbox 360.

359w ago - According to a Sony rep, PS3 Firmware 2.30 (that will accompany the launch of the new PlayStation Store) will not contain PlayStation Home despite what rumors suggest.

Despite what some rumour mongers would like for you to believe, no, Home is NOT a part of this update.

And so the wait continues...

Lair patch now available in Europe for PS3

100°
359w ago - According to reports, a 150MB Lair patch is now available to download bringing analog flight controls to the game, a targeting icon and Dual Shock 3 rumble support.

It apparently is only currently available in Europe.

To quote: It's true, we didn't like Lair but that doesn't mean that we're not excited about the analog patch (calling itself 2.10) which is up now for download, and weighs in at 150-ish MB.

Update: wow, that was fast. Cool, Lair now has 'analog flight controls' and crosshairs in the options menu. Note that this appears to just be for European versions of the game at the moment.

Update 2: this is much better. Much. Might be time to re-review the game. Note that dash and u-turn are now mapped to the d-pad, too.

BBC iPlayer available on PS3

250°
359w ago - BBC blogger Darren Waters has reported that the bbc's iplayer is now working through an unofficial website on the PS3.

To access it just enter http://www.ps3iplayer.com/ in the PS3's browser to access BBC content.

I haven't tried this myself yet and there seem to be some mixed reports coming through about quality. Either way it seems another cool piece of kit in the PS3's arsenal of weapons in the media centre war.

iPlayer can be accessed via your PC browser on http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ or on your Nintendo Wii.
