3.5" 500 GB SATA Hard Drive Housing Project for PS3

3.5" 500 GB SATA Hard Drive Housing Project for PS3 100°
359w ago - Milky_Joe has created an interesting looking 3.5" PS3 Hard Disk holder for a school project. The inspiration for the the project was that 3.5" Hard Drives were a lot cheaper than 2.5" equivalents.

To quote: The case itself was constructed from black acrylic sheets (3mm thick for the dimension lovers out there) that were cut to shape with a laser cutter and moulded were necessary (i.e the top and bottom panels).

The pieces were stuck together using a chemical known as diachloromethane (I could give you the atomic structure if you wanted) which dissolves plastics before evaporating to leave whatever it was that was unlucky enough to be touching the plastic at the time well and truly stuck.

I used silver spray paint (I believe it was Ford Moondust to be precise) to spray on the motif and black fabric on the underside to prevent scratching. The HDD is held in place by a 2-piece bracket that sits snuggly within the curved panels of the unit to hold it tightly in place (or at least it would if I had the **bleep** screws).

One cable runs from the data socket on the hard disk to the PS3 and the other provides power from the mains with the help of an adapter.

Spiderman: Web of Shadows Teaser video!

Spiderman: Web of Shadows Teaser video! 50°
359w ago - Although it wasn't ready to say too much about the action-adventure game, Activision did tell us that Web of Shadows will be set in a free-roaming, open-ended New York that combines web slinging with customizable superpowers.

There will be the traditional combo attacks on the ground, but the game will also feature a brand new emphasis on vertical combat as gamers take Spidey to the skies and duke it out with bad guys.

However, it might not just be foes who are getting socked in the jaw. According to Activision, Spider-Man's latest adventure will let players choose how they want to play -- if folks want to be the friendly neighborhood superhero, they can, but they can also ignore missions and be the anti-hero who is only looking out for himself. Marvel heroes and villains will pop up in the adventure, and gamers will have the ability to change sides as they see fit.

Activision is keeping its lips sealed about what Spider-Man is up against in the new game but we know it's a threat to the entire world and that it can do some real damage to New York. From the one screenshot and teaser trailer, it looks like Spidey's up against a number of villains who can redecorate buildings and create giant oozing black tendrils.

How to get the most out of your PS3!

How to get the most out of your PS3! 50°
359w ago - Just when you think Sony has shown its hand, it pulls out another wild card. Criticized at first for trying to cram too many features into the box and raising the price tag, Sony has continued to deliver even more features while cutting the cost.

While not every model of the PS3 has the full suite of features (memory card readers, WiFi), there are still more than enough new features to help you get the most out of your expensive PS3 purchase. And what Sony doesn't provide, crafty users are there to supplement.

Here are a few of the things we think will help you get started being a PS3 connoisseur.

Say Goodbye to DRM:

iTunes or Napster addicts know what a pain it is to pay for music and then find that you can't listen to it wherever you want. Thanks to DRM technology built into the audio files (something iTunes is slowly abandoning), you normally can't stream those files from your PC to your PS3, thus enjoying your music library in the comfort of your living room.

Well, now you can. After downloading Orb's Mycast technology onto your PC (which you can get for free through WinAmp Remote), and assuming you've already synced up your PC and PS3 over your home network, those music files will now be fully playable on the PS3. Problem solved.

SingStar Volume 2 for PS3 Q&A now available!

SingStar Volume 2 for PS3 Q&A now available! 50°
359w ago - ThreeSpeech has posted a huge Q&A on SingStar Volume 2 today. A question many were asking was whether all the tracks from SingStar Vol 1 & 2 be downloadable from SingStore.

Sony say that they "are working hard at clearing tracks for the SingStore and will continue to clear as many tracks as quickly as possible. When Volume 2 is released a number of tracks from the disc-based product will also be available to buy in the SingStore."

They also said that the new Harmony mode will also be available to owners of the first SingStar blu-ray disc with a free upgrade via the PSN.

To quote: 1. Will all the tracks from SingStar Vol 1 & 2 be downloadable from SingStore and when will this happen?

'Licensing music for digital distribution is a different process to that of the disc-based product. We are working hard at clearing tracks for the SingStore and will continue to clear as many tracks as quickly as possible. When Vol 2 is released a number of tracks from the disc-based product will also be available to buy in the SingStore.'

2. Will the Harmony Mode on SingStar Vol 2 be available to owners of the first SingStar blu-ray disk? Will this be as a downloadable upgrade and will user's be charged for it?
