El Segundo, Calif. - October 3, 2008 - Psyonix Studios announced today that Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars has gone gold and will be released on October 9 for the PlayStationŽNetwork on the PLAYSTATIONŽ3 computer entertainment system.

While in the air, cars can roll, flip, jump, dodge or spin in a freestyle fashion.

Who's Winning the Battle for the 'Hardcore' Market Share?

Who's Winning the Battle for the 'Hardcore' Market Share? 100°
335w ago - Nintendo is rather clearly running away with the so-called 'casual' market, but that still leaves room for Sony and Microsoft.

Chris Bateman takes the opinion that Sony has managed to squander the biggest market lead in the history of gaming, but that doesn't mean it's easy sailing for Microsoft. To quote:

"The battle is far from over, and Sony have more up their sleeve right now than Microsoft appear to be able to muster, but by stealing hardcore loyalty from their market rivals, Microsoft has gained an edge that could allow them to give Sony a seriously bloody nose this time around.

But if it came to 360 versus Wii in a battle for the mass market, Microsoft should save their warchest and call it quits - it may be the hardcore gamer's ideal machine right now, but even in a dream scenario the 360's installed base is probably going to top out at about 40 million (not coincidentally, roughly the size of the installed base of Sony's hardcore-friendly PSP handheld).

The Wii might not have the legs to beat Sony's 140 million PS2's, since that was the consequence of a convergence between gamer hobbyist and mass market support which doesn't exist now that the console manufacturers have torn the market dynamic into two very different halves, but with a good tailwind...

New Killzone 2 StA-14 Battle Rifle Unveiled 100°
336w ago - Here is the scoop, from their site linked at the top!

StA-14 Battle Rifle
Description:

Still in service after fifty years, the StA-14 combines the ruggedness and reliability of the assault rifle with the accuracy and range of the sniper rifle. A symbol for the enduring nature of Helghast military ingenuity, it is considered an honor to wield this classic weapon into battle.

Features:

- Fires heavy-grain 7.62x51mm HSO rounds
- Distinct range advantage over StA-52 LAR
- Quicker target acquisition than StA-74 PSR
- Perfect for a defensive role from cover

Designing a Future Classic
The accepted classification of weapon types in most present-day military services runs the gamut from pistol, through submachine gun, assault rifle and sniper rifle, to support weapons like the machine gun. But there's an older, lesser-known weapon type that sits between the assault rifle and the sniper rifle. Known as the battle rifle, this saber-toothed forebear of the common assault rifle is much larger, and fires heavier bullets with a bigger charge.

In Killzone 2, the role of the battle rifle was assigned to the StA-14. Intended as a forerunner to other 'Stahl Arms' weapons in the franchise - notably the StA-52 LAR and the brand-new...

Yakuza 3 Discussed in Famitsu; Seamless Battle Transitions

Yakuza 3 Discussed in Famitsu; Seamless Battle Transitions 50°
338w ago - Famitsu has some details in Yakuza 3, which is set to take off from where part 2 ended. This sequel includes a free camera which allows you to control your viewpoint, improved AI for town residents and thankfully a reduction in load time. Apparently, the transition from encounter to battle is now seamless.

To quote: Nagoshi told the magazine that the new title begins immediately after the events of part 2, as in right after that game's last scene. Kiryu and Haruka decide to head down to Okinawa, where they expect to find a peaceful life.

As previously announced, Yakuza 3 will alternate between Okinawa and the original's Tokyo-based location. There will be some similarities between the two locations, including the use of signs and shops from real world brands. Yakuza 3 has the highest number of tie-ups so far for the series, explained Nagoshi.

Yakuza veterans will see some improvements to the game's environments, outside of the obvious up in visual quality. The night life will be more realistic than ever, with large groups of people walking through the streets and even taxis racing from location to location.

You'll get to enjoy this more advanced night life with a more advanced camera system. Yakuza 3 includes a free camera, allowing you to control your viewpoint.
