Review: Operation Darkness for XBox 360 50°
June 23, 2008 // 10:32 pm - Repeat after me: Operation Darkness is not a good game. Operation Darkness is not a good game. There, you just saved yourself some time and money. This is a videogame rife with bad design, bad programming, bad sound and bad graphics. Did I mention this game is bad?

Don't be misled. It sounds pretty great on paper. Operation Darkness is a turn-based strategy RPG set in World World II, but this isn't your daddy's war. This one pits you and a band of super-soldier werewolves against the Nazis and a clan of vampires. It's like Shining Force meets Brothers in Arms with a twist of Van Helsing.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Soundtrack Review: True Sounds of Liberty 50°
June 22, 2008 // 9:32 pm - The Metal Gear Solid series has consistently delivered some of the best original soundtrack material in games, due in large part to the orchestrations of Harry Gregson-Willams.

Those smart enough to have picked up the Limited Edition Bundle of MGS4 were treated to a bonus CD featuring 16 tracks from Gregson-Williams' killer score for the game.

For those not in the know, Harry Gregson-Williams is one of the most prolific composers of the past decade or so, with film credits ranging from "The Rock" to the upcoming "Wolverine" movie. Gregson-Williams is also...

PSP Video Review: Secret Agent Clank available! 100°
June 20, 2008 // 7:46 pm - Clank, many would argue, is the class of the Ratchet & Clank games. Ratchet, after all, is just some pointy-eared goof who solves most of his problems by bashing them with a wrench. His robot sidekick Clank is the brains of the outfit, and the wit, and most of the style as well.

Daxter (as in Jak &) was the first of Sony's sidekick characters to star in his own PSP game, but Clank has finally gotten his due, and High Impact Software hasn't done too badly by the little guy. Secret Agent Clank doesn't stray too far from the formula Insomniac conceived for the main R&C series, but it...

Review: Alone in the Dark for X-Box 360 50°
June 19, 2008 // 6:56 pm - It's difficult to like a game that's constantly firing a shotgun into its own foot. There are so many fine and novel ideas but they're not implemented well, making playing the game frustrating or repetitive. If you've ever played the (much less flawed) PS2 cult classic disaster-movie inspired S.O.S.

The Final Escape, you might notice a lot of similarities in the first couple of levels. You're thrust into the action with little let-up for a good hour or so. Gasp as you hang from about 30 storeys up as gargoyles come crashing down past you.

It's very exciting. The protagonist,...

EGM won't Review MGS4 because Konami Imposed Limitations 550°
June 2, 2008 // 1:15 pm - To recap: Konami are imposing restrictions on what publications can and cannot talk about when reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4. No mention of 90-minute cutscenes please, and while you're at it, no talky-talky about install sizes either, K? IGN are cool with that. EGM, refreshingly, are not.

Due to "limitations Konami wanted to impose on our comments", the editorial team decided to refrain from giving the game a score, and in lieu of a "review" posted a lengthy roundtable discussion about the game instead. It's hardly a gloved fist on an Olympic dias, but it is nice seeing somebody do...

PSN Review - Let's Be Honest! 50°
June 1, 2008 // 5:12 pm - It's now been almost 2 years since the PlayStation 3 found its way into consumers hands, and things are looking brighter over the horizon. Blu-Ray has won the format war, there's a good lineup of titles dropping throughout 2008, developers are getting more of a handle on the hardware, and sales are keeping pace - at least with the Xbox 360.

Unfortunately, one area has stayed stagnant since its inception, and there doesn't seem to be much of a sign of improvement until at least this fall. I am referring to the PlayStation Network, and its abysmal showing this far.

Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Review 200°
May 26, 2008 // 10:56 pm - So, the time has come and the gates of Hyboria have been opened. This review is going to cover the first 20 levels of the Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures from the time you are ship wrecked on the island until you leave to adventure the true game.

First, AoC (Age of Conan) is the first game that I have played where you are able to create your character in detail. Although most mmorpgs have basic customization, your character in Conan is completely customizable from head to toe. Most of this you already know so let me get to the break down of the game itself.

AoC has...

Review: Ninja Gaiden II for X-Box 360 50°
May 26, 2008 // 10:48 pm - Ninja Gaiden 2 is the first game all over again, only faster and with a fancy new combat feature where you can hack off enemy limbs and execute elaborate finishing moves that differ from weapon to weapon.

It's every bit as hard as its predecessor and then some with two unlockable difficulty levels in addition to the two defaults. The only problem is that Ninja Gaiden 2 looks just like Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3 with barely any improvement in graphics and no Rachel segments to switch things up.

The gameplay is still ridiculously hard, take it or leave it (and most...
