Subliminal homophobic messages in Super Mario Galaxy boxart?

Subliminal homophobic messages in Super Mario Galaxy boxart? 50°
389w ago - Spotted by several eagle-eyed GameFAQers, the boxart for upcoming title Super Mario Galaxy appears to be a little more sinister than its childish overtones.

Harmless, right? Look at the title carefully, spotting the letters with stars underneath them, and spell it out.

Yes, that's right, you'll end up with U R MR GAY. I kid you not.

After Nintendo pulled Mind Quiz earlier in the year for featuring offensive words at the disabled, the mind starts to wonder if this is just simple human error or deliberate.

After all, as simple as Pac-Man was, you have to wonder if a game based on playing in a darkened room munching pills, running from ghosts and listening to repetitive music would get past the sensors, or indeed, Jack Thompson.

Forever Blue

Forever Blue 50°
390w ago - Swim lazily over coral reefs, admiring the fish and listening to the soothing/annoying sounds of Hayley Westenra, the Kiwi Charlotte Church. If that's your idea of a good time, then welcome to your New Best Game Ever. If not, have a word with yourself and come back with an attitude readjustment, because you need to forget any preconceptions you may have had. Forever Blue is console psychotherapy, and it's totally brilliant.

It's also a proper game, believe it or not, with missions and objectives. That there's a complete lack of challenge in any of it only adds to its supremely relaxing nature, but you do get a feeling of accomplishment after acing another task or finding a particularly pretty sort of fish.

The old woman of the sea:
You play a diver with a massive boat and a chunk of ocean to explore. We picked a female because we didn't really want to get a close-up view of neoprene-clad manbits in the event of a camera malfunction, but the choice is entirely yours. Give her a name (ours is called Nemo) and a hairdo, then jump off the boat and witness an underwater scene that will take your breath away.

In the early parts of the game, the aim is simply to explore the reef and learn about the fish. There are around 200 species to discover, with loads of different ones in each area. When...

Nintendo Dates Wii Zapper, Confirms Link's Crossbow

Nintendo Dates Wii Zapper, Confirms Link's Crossbow 50°
390w ago - Official confirmation from Nintendo that the Wii Zapper interface will indeed come with Link's Crossbow Training packed in and that the remote-housing Wii Zapper will sell for $20 starting Nov. 19.

Link's Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull's-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.
Nintendo also confirms a pretty interesting line-up of third-party Wii Zapper support including Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 which will include single player, arcade mode and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer.

First Wii Game-Play Accessory Comes Packaged with Zelda Software

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 10, 2007 - Nintendo announced today that the Wii Zapper™ interface for the hit Wii™ home video game system will come packed with Link's Crossbow Training™. The software is based on the hugely popular Legend of Zelda® series and provides a perfect demonstration of the way the Wii Zapper could be used in other games. The Wii Zapper casing houses both...

Eyes-On Ghost Squad

Eyes-On Ghost Squad 50°
390w ago - Sega's light gun tradition continues on Wii. First impressions inside.

Since the first rumblings of Ghost Squad's Wii release, the IGN Wii team has been pretty optimistic for the shooter's reincarnation on Nintendo's newest system. True; Wii doesn't do exact light gun conversion (at least not yet), but at least the IR adaptation has made it possible for games like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, as well as Duck Hunt clones in Wii Play and the possibility of House of the Dead or Virtua Cop's revival down the road - should SEGA will it. As the first light gun outing for the Japan-based company, SEGA is pushing the spiritual successor of both Virtua Cop and Confidential Mission (another arcade game that had a brief stint on Dreamcast), as Ghost Squad is now heading to Wii.

Ghost Squad is, in nearly every respect, the next Virtua Cop incarnation. The title has changed, and the game is now more robust, but everything from disarming shots to headshots and a precision score multiplier system is all in tact. In addition, Ghost Squad blends the familiar light gun game with borrowed techniques from Confidential Mission, adding in more context-sensitive challenges that take place in tandem with shooting bouts.

Everything from hand-to-hand reflex challenges to wire-cutting and sniping is included in...

Well-crafted 'Metroid' is sure to please fans

Well-crafted 'Metroid' is sure to please fans 50°
391w ago - Hardcore gamers were beginning to wonder if Nintendo had forgotten them

Hardcore gamers were starting to wonder if Nintendo had forgotten about them. The company likes to crow about the smash success of its DS and Wii machines – and about how its expanded the gaming audience to include people like your grandma.

"Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" is proof positive that Nintendo still loves those that stood by them during the leaner GameCube years. This is an extremely well-crafted rollercoaster ride featuring one of the most beloved figures in Nintendo's mascot menagerie, bounty hunter Samus Aran.

In this first-person perspective game, sci-fi heroine Samus must take on an array of space pirates, alien nasties, and ultimately her shadow, the evil Dark Samus. Samus comes packing – she's equipped with a giant multi-purpose cannon attached to her left arm.

Over the course of the game, players will accumulate an arsenal of weapon power-ups like ice missiles, grapple lassos and the deadly screw attack. Samus' suit transforms into a perfect sphere called a Morph Ball at the press of a button, allowing her to roll through tight corridors and slip through narrow openings.

The "Corruption" subtitle comes from Samus' ability to utilize dark matter (called Phazon) to temporarily...
