Free Radical eyeing Wii for TimeSplitters 4

388w ago - We'd pretty much bet our life savings of £5.67 that TimeSplitters 4 (first details here) will release on PS3 and Xbox 360, but it's also looking likely that we wouldn't lose money by backing a Wii version either.

Free Radical's David Doak has described Wii development in general as "a good thing to do" and followed that up with "I think we want to put it [TimeSplitters 4] on the Wii", in an interview with Game Informer.

"I'm sure it's possible to do a control scheme that works", Doak added when asked about his thoughts on developing a first-person shooter for Wii.

He went on to say he'd like to see Free Radical's Second Sight on Wii too.

"Also, if you want to start a petition for remaking Second Sight on the Wii, I'd like to see that as well, because I think that game worked really well, [laughs] because of the manipulation stuff."

Veterinarian Finds Wii Remote In Family Dog

388w ago - The Becknell family from Loveland, CO became extremely concerned when their 3 year old Labrador Retriever started spiting up blood. The X-rays from there emergency visit to the vet showed a mass in the dogs stomach. After reviewing the X-rays with family they agreed it was probably an old remote that they had been letting the dog use as a chew toy.

The Vet gave the dog one teaspoon of Syrup of Ipecac and shortly there after the Lab started vomiting up the contents of his stomach. As expected up came the remote but it was just chunks of the remote. The dog had chewed the remote into little pieces and that wasn't the mass in the X-ray.

"The Vet started massaging the dogs belly and it just came flying out of the dog," said Marie Becknell. I knew what it was right away by the color and shape of it. It was my son's video game remote. The dog had swallowed the boy's Nintendo Wii remote controller.

"The dog spent the night at the Vet and boy's punishment for leaving the controller out was two weeks allowance to replace the Wii remote", said Mrs. Becknell. The dog was fine but the remote had to be tossed.

Super Paper Mario (EUR) bug discovered!

388w ago - When you are playing Super Paper Mario in UK English, German or Spanish, a problem can occur in a very specific situation. Since the situation where the error occurs is so specific, it's very possible that you may not experience any issue at all.

At the start of Chapter 2-2, you will come across a character called Mimi. She will tell you to go to the farthest room on the first floor to meet a character called Merlee. Enter that room and press the green switch. A trap will be triggered, and a spiked ceiling will descend upon Mario. Before the ceiling reaches him, flip into 3D and jump on it to find a key.

If you pick up the key, you won't run into any problems. Use it to open the locked door to Mimi's right. However, if you talk to Mimi without picking up the key, the game will freeze. You will then have to turn off your Wii console and start again from your last save point.

Please note that your game freezing up will not do any damage to your Wii or the game itself, but we do sincerely apologise for this error and the inconvenience caused to your gameplay experience.

While you can avoid the problem as described above, we want to give you the opportunity to replace your Super Paper Mario game disc free of charge with a new version that doesn't contain the error. Details about...

Wii Gets Lightsaber Action With The Force Unleashed

389w ago - LucasArts has announced its first next-gen title with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS action title due in Spring 2008, featuring a Wii exclusive duel mode that will let players take part in a light saber battle using the Wii Remote.

Apart from the lightsaber functionality, LucasArts says the Wii version of the game, in development by Krome Studios (Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning), will also use the console's Nunchuk to control Force powers.

Wii Saves use Elliptic Curve Cryptography

389w ago - therealr recently shared some very interesting information about Wii Saves. To quote:

"It appears a Wii savegame file ends with a certificate chain. The certificates contains a public keypair (the one that is being "certified") and a signature (another number pair) from the signing entity. The number pairs are stored as a compound 60 bit data (first 30 bytes for the first number, and the next 30 bytes for the second). Hence, the first and middle byte is always 00 or 01 for keys, and 00 for signatures. One can check that the keys are indeed NIST B 233 keys using openssls EC_KEY_check_key function (code forthcoming)."

The post continues on to speculate on the certificate structure among other things. Cool stuff indeed for Wii devs!
