Manhunt 2 release saga continues 50°
January 26, 2008 // 2:12 pm - The developer of controversial video game Manhunt 2 has failed in its latest attempt to release the game in the UK.

A high court judge ruled that the Rockstar Games' title must be re-evaluated by an appeals committee.

The violent game was first banned in June 2007 and has since been subject to numerous reviews and court cases.

Developer Rockstar Games said it did not understand the decision to spend public money repeating a certification process it had already passed.

EA pushes ad-backed video games 50°
January 24, 2008 // 2:59 am - Electronic Arts is to release a free online version of the popular Battlefield game to be supported by adverts and micro payments.

The PC game, Battlefield Heroes, will be available only online later this year, and will not be sold in shops.

The move marks EA's first major attempt to tap into new sources of ad-driven revenue in Western markets.

The firm has a free version of its Fifa game in South Korea, earning more than $1m a month through in-game sales.

"Online gaming has a massive audience," said EA's Gerhard Florin, in a statement.

Naughty Dog: We'll see leaps between games on the PS3 bigger than on the PS2 50°
January 21, 2008 // 6:31 pm - Speaking in a recent interview, Evan Wells of Naughty Dogs was discussing the success of Uncharted for the PS3. As well as lavishing praise on the PS3 and the importance of the team hiring the correct people, Wells remarked that they should be able to do much more in future as their engine and development environment are now in place.

He stated the effort can now be focused on what they want to do rather than how to do it and believes that within 3 years leaps between games on the PS3 will be bigger than those experienced on the PS2.

January 14, 2008 // 9:38 pm - THQ has announced it will acquire Big Huge Games (Rise of Nations, Catan) for an undisclosed sum, making the Maryland-based studio a wholly-owned subsidiary.
