Q-Games: Star Dust, Dynamic PS3 Themes and Little Tikiman

Q-Games: Star Dust, Dynamic PS3 Themes and Little Tikiman 100°
287w ago - Today Q-Games Ltd. President and Executive Producer Dylan Cuthbert has shared some updates on Star Dust, Dynamic PS3 Themes and their favorite Little Tikiman, as follows:

Well, Q-Games has been busy again, and not just on PixelJunk. You may have noticed some new additions to the PlayStation 3's XMB (Xross Media Bar) with the latest firmware update to version 3.00.

Well, we're behind the "star dust" and if you haven't noticed it yet, you're in for a nice surprise. We wanted to implement something like the beginning of the movie Gattaca but they wouldn't let us go quite that far, so we settled on the subtle but pretty dust effect you can see now. If you shake the Wireless Controller, you can move them about a bit, as if they are being carried by eddies in the wind.

Also, there are these new things called Dynamic Themes, and we're proud to say that this is a system we were involved in developing. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) wanted to spice up the background a bit and static pictures just didn't cut the mustard.

So we collaborated with them to make a system where developers can display what they want and animate and move them around. This definitely adds a little life to the PS3's background so be sure...

Videos: PS3 Slim Loads Games & Movies Faster on Firmware 3.0

Videos: PS3 Slim Loads Games & Movies Faster on Firmware 3.0 800°
287w ago - In videos from last weekend, we learned that the PS3 fat boots itself faster than the PS3 Slim, but the Slim had the edge when it came to loading games.

Now with new PS3 Firmware 3.0, the PS3 Slim loads games even faster... up to 25% faster according to Eurogamer on a Devil May Cry 4 installation.

YouTube user PS3slimComparison did a PS3 Slim Firmware 2.80 vs 3.00 Uncharted 1 level load comparison, with the same settings on both consoles and same 7200RPM hard drive installed on each.

To quote: "In this demonstration, conducted by the same source as the original testing, we see the PS3 Slim (Firmware 2.8) load Uncharted: Drake's Fortune against the PS3 Slim (Firmware 3.0).

The difference is considerable (you know, for adjustments to software alone), and we don't see why most other games wouldn't encounter similar loading improvements."

Finally, in the second video (below) it appears Blu-ray movies also load faster on PS3 Slim Firmware 3.0 versus...

Sony to Ship 3D TVs and 3D-Ready PS3 Games in 2010 650°
287w ago - It appears the PlayStation company is putting its electronics might behind 3D television technology, with the company expected to start selling fancy three-dimensional displays next year–with 3D PlayStation 3 games being readied to capitalize on the technology.

To quote: According to the Financial Times, Sony boss man Sir Howard Stringer will be announcing the company's plans to invest in 3D LCD TVs at the IFA show in Berlin.

And he'll also be announcing Sony laptop computers, PlayStation 3 games and Blu-ray players that will be compatible with the technology.

With the PS3 already capable of playing 4D games, according to former PlayStation exec Ken Kutaragi, one has to wonder "Why the step back?"

Reports of PS3 Firmware Update 3.0 Freezing Games Surface

Reports of PS3 Firmware Update 3.0 Freezing Games Surface 1000°
287w ago - Well, it's less than a day after Sony's PS3 Firmware 3.0 update has been released and already there appears to be numerous reports of some PS3 games freezing post-update.

According to Examiner.com (linked above), at least three PS3 titles thus far seem to be adversely affected.

To quote: "One of the biggest games being inflicted by this freezing bug is Uncharted. Numerous forum goers on GameFaqs are complaining about the freezing issue. There have also been a few reports of the UFC and Bioshock getting similar symptoms.

Whether this is just limited to Uncharted isn't known, but it could very well cause some minor problems to other titles, too. Let's hope Sony finds a cure for this minor inconvenience soon."

A few others are reporting that NFS: Undercover now freezes when playing online and COD4 froze when in a lobby.

That being said, if anyone here has experienced any PS3 game freezing issues since updating to PS3 Firmware 3.0 feel free to reply in the comments below!
