Sony Takes Micro-transactions to New World in PlayStation Home 50°
December 11, 2008 // 8:30 pm - Sony launched its Home virtual world for the PlayStation 3 today, opening up its beta test to all 16 million PS3 owners. We've tested Home in a closed beta so far, but now we will find out if it is ready for millions of people.

Jack Buser is the director of Home for the U.S. market. We talked with him by phone yesterday about Sony's plans for expanding the world and what's there now. [FYI: At the moment, I'm having trouble logging into Home; apparently, it's crowded]

VentureBeat: You took more than 18 months. That's a long time. What was the hard part?

Resistance 2 for PlayStation 3 Takes 420 Hours to Complete 100°
November 1, 2008 // 10:38 pm - And by complete, we mean complete complete. Sony says, and you may already have heard this figure tossed around, that there's some 420 hours worth of play time in Resistance 2 required to unlock everything.

Thankfully, for at least my own review purposes, the single player campaign should take you about 9 to 11 hours to burn through. That's totally reasonable.

But if you plan on dedicating the time to do everything, unlock every level, find every briefing, max out every class, you've got about 18 days of your life ahead of you just playing R2.

And...

Nintendo DS Lite Vs DSi: 7 Changes You Should Take Note Of 50°
October 2, 2008 // 10:55 pm - PushingPlay.com (linked above) has shared 7 things consumers should take note of while comparing the new DSi to the 'old' DS Lite. To quote:

Camera - While 2 cameras have been added, only one is visible while playing your games (the other is on the backside). This camera subscribes to the apple webcam mentality that you should ALWAYS have a lens pointed at you.

Finish - The DS Lite had a slightly shiny glossed finish, while the new one seems to be a bit more matte. Maybe this will mean less greasy fingerprints!

Power button - The DS Phat had the power button...

Sony: Life with PlayStation Released by Mistake 400°
September 17, 2008 // 6:08 pm - Sony has told CVG that today's surprise launch of the PS3's news and weather channel, Life with PlayStation, was a mistake.

The channel went live earlier today, surprising the lucky few who stumbled across the update and managed to get it all installed before Sony whipped it back offline again.

The 126MB download changes the Folding@Home app into the new Life with PlayStation channel (F@H does its cancer-curing job in the background while you read the news), but the update is no longer available.

"Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation...

Spencer: We'll always take on Sony's first-party titles 50°
September 16, 2008 // 4:36 pm - A bullish Microsoft has declared it's happy to go toe-to-toe with rival Sony products, as the two companies prepare for another bloody battle at retail this Christmas.

Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Games Studios, has declared that first-party publishing has always been about exclusives, and he's confident his titles can better anything his bitter rivals at Sony can turn out.

"Let's start from the beginning of both consoles - PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 - which first party has had more success on their own platform? We...

September 14, 2008 // 5:56 pm - EA has made it official, after all the extenstions on the tender offers, and the presentation, they are no longer interested in purchasing Take Two and have terminated all talks.

Reggae man sues Rockstar, Take-Two for Copyright in GTA IV 50°
September 10, 2008 // 9:53 pm - Looks like trouble never sleeps in Liberty City, indeed. This time around, it's a music copyright lawsuit that's filed against Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, particularly on the songs played on the in-game radio station.

Jamaican Linton White alleged in his complaint that the reggae song "Last Night" making its rounds on the GTA IV (Xbox 360, PS3) airwaves care of the reggae station, Massive B Sound System 96.9, was actually co-written by him with one David Brooks (aka "Mavado"). Apart from that song, there's also "Bullet Proof Skin", which he says he co-wrote with Brooks...

Tecmo Answers Spurned Square's Takeover Rejection Questions 50°
September 9, 2008 // 5:16 pm - Back before Square Enix rescinded its friendly Tecmo takeover bid, we first broke the news that RPG maker was baffled. Tecmo rejected its offer in favor of merging with Dynasty Warriors company Koei. Most curious. Square Enix had three questions for Tecmo:

1. Please confirm that the decision on the start of discussions with KOEI toward integration of management is the reason for rejection of the Proposal.

2. If that is the case, please clarify concretely that major terms of integration of management with KOEI (form of the integration, stock prices assumption,...
