Video: PS Vita Gyro JSoS Homebrew Demo by Brian Balling Arrives

Video: PS Vita Gyro JSoS Homebrew Demo by Brian Balling Arrives 850°
12w ago - Today Sony PlayStation Vita hacker Brian Balling (aka BBalling1) has made available a native PS Vita Gyro JSoS (JavaScript on Steroids) homebrew demo which utilizes PS Vita's gyroscope to move a square on the screen of his PC.

To quote: Can this be considered the first PS Vita native “homebrew”?

I was not really sure where to put the quotes in this title. Is this a “Vita” homebrew? is this a “native” homebrew? Is this even a “homebrew”? Depending on your definitions, your answer might vary.

But the fact remains that BBalling1 (a.k.a. Codelion) showcased yesterday some homemade code running through the JSoS (Javascript on Steroids) framework, that we typically refer to as the “native vita exploit” these days. Regular progress is made on the native vita exploit, with Hyken recently releasing an attempt to unify the various ongoing efforts, under the name Vitasploit.

Bballing1 hasn’t been resting either it seems, and if I were to guess, I’d say many people are now busy reverse-engineering the modules that have...

Video: PS Vita Dual Firmware Boot Proof-of-Concept Demo Arrives

Video: PS Vita Dual Firmware Boot Proof-of-Concept Demo Arrives 750°
58w ago - Today Sony PlayStation Vita hacker Katsu released a VPS Vita Dual Firmware Boot Proof-of-Concept demo video with details below.

To quote: It didn’t take long for Yifan Lu’s investigations to become useful for other hardware hackers! Our community member katsu, guided by Yifan’s precise description of the Vita’s NAND pinouts, was able to hack his PS Vita in order to boot from a previous firmware, technically performing something very similar to a downgrade. Check the video below, it’s cool and full of “electronicsporn”, like your favorite cyberpunk movie.

What katsu did was dump his firmware 2.12 (on the NAND), probably using Yifan Lu’s technique. He then copied that Firmware dump to an SD card. In the meantime, he upgraded the PS Vita to firmware 3.01. On the video, you see him inserting his SD card in a reader connected to the Vita. The Vita then reads the content of the SD card (the firmware 2.12 he dumped earlier) instead of its own 3.01 NAND.

What the hell does all of that mean? First of all, that Yifan Lu’s little experiment in the hardware world is proving successful, by providing inspiration and documentation for other talented hardware modders.

Secondly, that downgrading a PS Vita is a possibility under certain...

Metrico on PS Vita: Infographics and Input Morphing Detailed

Metrico on PS Vita: Infographics and Input Morphing Detailed 50°
80w ago - Digital Dreams Level Designer Roy van de Mortel shared some concept art and details today on both infographics and input morphing in Metrico on PS Vita below.

To quote: It has been a while since we announced Metrico, so we are very excited to finally be able to share some more insights into the development and current state of Metrico.

We have been working very hard the last couple of months to make sure we now have a playable version, so people can experience what Metrico is about for the first time.

We announced Metrico at GDC San Francisco back in March with an announcement teaser, which was well received. But we knew that the next time we showed something to the press and you guys, we obviously would have to show more than the abstract video, aimed at introducing the game.

Metrico is a mysterious world, so we decided to keep it a bit vague with the teaser. We have a lot more to show since last March, so we'd like to take a moment and explain what type of a game Metrico is.

In Metrico the player needs to traverse the game world, which is built from all sorts of infographics, like bar diagrams, pie charts, line graphs, etc. These infographics constantly change based on your actions,...

Videos: PS Vita Firmware 2.10 Hello World and VHBL Demos, TN-V v3

Videos: PS Vita Firmware 2.10 Hello World and VHBL Demos, TN-V v3 400°
99w ago - Following up on Sony's recent PS Vita Firmware 2.10 release, PlayStation Vita hacker The Z has shared some videos of a Hello World and VHBL running on it alongside news of TN-V v3 incoming.

Below are the details via Wololo, to quote: It is no secret that PS Vita scene member The Z has a PSP hack available and running on the Vita. He actually mentioned that a while ago back when 2.06 was the latest and greatest.

Today, as firmware 2.10 was announced then quickly made available, we got the usual flow of questions: Have exploits been patched? Does VHBL still work? Will TN save the world from the Giant Crab?

Well at least now we can at least answer one of those, as The Z was quick to confirm that his current exploit is still alive on PS Vita 2.10, as shown in the video below.

Don’t get too excited though. This is, as is now the tradition, “only” a usermode exploit inside of the PSP emulator, running through an undisclosed PSP game, and The Z has not announced anything about a release.

To some of you, this might sound like a broken record now, but new people...
