PS4 Developer Hints at PlayStation 4 Custom Wallpapers Coming Soon

700°
2w ago - According to Zombie Army Trilogy PS4 developer William Dearborn of Rebellion Oxford / Rebellion Developments an upcoming System Software update will support PlayStation 4 custom wallpapers with details below.

From willydearborn (via twitter.com/willydearborn/status/564986050255130624): https://i.imgur.com/COZJFyY.jpg custom wallpapers coming to ps4?

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked at the top of this article): "One of the most requested features for the PS4 is the ability to set a custom wallpaper besides the themes provided by Sony, and Zombie Army Trilogy developer Rebellion might know about it something that we don’t, or at least that’s what the game’s official website seems to be indicating.

In order to get to the rather interesting hint, you have to follow a slightly convoluted path. The “free content” area of the official website will require you to sign up for a newsletter. Once subscribed and confirmed, you’ll be redirected to a new page with a set of wallpapers, including one for Xbox One and one for PS4. Of course, the caveat is that the PS4 doesn’t currently support custom wallpapers.

Yet, the page reassures the visitor, as you can see...

Sony VP Hints of PlayStation 4 (PS4) Announcement in May, 2013

1150°
110w ago - It's been just over a month since IGN confirmed PlayStation 4 developer kit updates surfaced, and today Sony VP of Home Entertainment Hiroshi Sakamoto has hinted that a PS4 (Orbis) announcement my arrive in May prior to E3 this year.

Below is the scoop, to quote: "He told Emol in response to a question about "a new announcement related to the new PlayStation," that while the news is "still a big secret," the PlayStation side of Sony, "are getting ready for it."

He of course doesn't directly refer to a "PlayStation 4" or the rumored "Orbis" internal project name. Sakamoto adds that the PlayStation team are "focused on E3," but, "the announcement could take place at that time, or maybe even before, in May."

Sounds like Sony's toying with a pre-E3 event for its next-gen console - E3 takes place on June 11 - 13 - though Mr. Sakamoto's comments are still ambiguous enough that we can't be sure. This is a company that launched three different major hardware iterations of the PlayStation 3, so anything could happen.

SCEA CEO Kaz Hirai Hints at PSP2 Touch Controls

300°
218w ago - Today, in an interview with the New York Times Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Kaz Hirai dropped some tantalizing hints about the PSP2.

When asked about what kind of controls the next PSP might have, Hirai gave the following answer, to quote:

"Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel, but you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you're able to use both in combination."

Hirai was also asked about reports of Sony Ericsson's PSP Go-like gaming phone, which may -or may not- be PlayStation branded.

"We don't want gamers to be asking, what's the difference between that and a PSP," said Hirai, without confirming the device's existence. "We have to come up with a message that users will understand. It would have to be a product that keeps the PlayStation's strengths intact."

Finally, Hirai expressed his belief that the increased interest in casual games will actually benefit Sony, traditionally a maker of more hardcore games. "We're seeing people who never had an interest in games join the gaming population," he explained....
