July 20, 2009 // 8:56 am - I slapped the 'rumor' status on this one for now until others can confirm it... today (linked above) via CVG are claiming that Sony finally pushed the button marked "obligatory" on PS3 Firmware Update 2.80.

This comes after Sony's Director of Network Operations stated that with 2.8 it was an option to update as...

Zellers is No Longer Stocking 80GB PS3 Core Console Bundles 50°
July 15, 2009 // 12:03 am - According to an internal memo JoyStiq (linked above) received, Zellers - the Canadian retail chain - may no longer be stocking the 80GB PlayStation 3 Core bundle.

The memo specifically notes that employees are not to take rainchecks on an advertised deal allowing customers to purchase an 80GB core bundle with any PS3 game under $30 for a total price of $380 (after a $20 discount).

To quote: The memo notes that rainchecks can't be accepted because the company "can not promise" to fill them with the same item.

Assuming the document is real (the contact...

Phil Harrison is No Longer President of Atari Corporation 100°
May 29, 2009 // 11:07 pm - Last year Atari hired former Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison to serve as President. Now? Now he's no longer President.

According to a statement made by Atari as part of the company's fiscal year report:

Because of a shift of business operations to the US, Phil Harrison will move from the role of President to that of non-executive Director of the Group. As all Board members, he will continue to assist, support and guide the Company's strategy.

PSN Version of Warhawk No Longer Locked to Purchased Account 400°
March 24, 2009 // 7:49 pm - Just logged in today with one of my alt accounts and it is no longer locked to the account that originally purchased it.

This ticked me off so much when I originally bought it from the PlayStation Store that I never bought a PSN version of any game due to not wanting to get burnt again by Sony.

Why would I buy a game if my whole family can't play it on there own accounts?

I'm sure the original account must be present on the console your playing on but I can't confirm this because my wife is playing on her account at the moment. lol

Well thumbs...

Sony: PlayStation 3 is Future-Proof, Will Last Longer Than PS2 400°
February 7, 2009 // 10:21 pm - Against all odds, the PlayStation 2 is still hanging around, though it's ailing rapidly. According to Sony though, the PlayStation 3 will last even longer. To quote:

Speaking to T3 via CVG, a Sony rep made a statement that discourages the thought of expecting a PlayStation 4 anytime soon.

"PS2 was still going strong after eight years, and with the power the Cell processor provides, not to mention the fact that PS3 is inherently future-proof, we see the PS3 sales curve far outlasting that of PS2."

Launch Day XBox 360s No Longer Under Three-Year Warranty 200°
February 1, 2009 // 9:34 pm - An anonymous e-mail hit the tips line earlier today and after placing a call with Microsoft's technical support, we can confirm that starting February 2, all launch day Xbox 360s will no longer be covered by Microsoft's three-year extended warranty.

The warranty should have technically ended at the end of September last year, as I was told by the technical support agent.

If you're unfortunate enough to own a launch version of the Xbox 360 and need to send it in for repairs after February 2, you'll have two options available to you. You can either call Xbox's...

L.A. Noire: A Year Off and No Longer PS3 Exclusive? 50°
September 19, 2008 // 9:49 pm - Tom Crago, the CEO of Tantalus and the president of the Game Developers' Association of Australia, yesterday gave an overview of the Australian game development industry at GC Asia 2008, and IGN was there to nab a few little tidbits on L.A. Noire, the Rockstar-published game being developed out of Team Bondi in Sydney.

No one has heard anything on the title for some time, but Crago confirmed that "it's got - I'd suggest - another year or so to go". He also mentioned that it "could be the biggest budget videogame in development anywhere in the world. It would certainly... in...

Payton: Japan's No Longer the Center of the Gaming Universe 50°
September 1, 2008 // 11:26 pm - Ryan Payton, self-described game hobo, fresh off working on Metal Gear Solid 4 and a cross-country move from Japan back to Seattle, took some time to sit down with me this weekend to talk development, Japan and life.

Payton's move back from Japan to the U.S. couldn't come at a better time for a game developer, as the focus on game development seems to be shifting from former dev powerhouse Japan to the U.S. Japan may still be the center of the gaming universe when it comes to cold hard cash, but when it comes to development it no longer seems to be, Payton said.
