Kinect Applications Possible on PS3 via API OpenNI Drivers 650°
December 15, 2010 // 10:00 pm - Just over a month ago Adafruit Industries offered and paid a bounty for an Open Kinect Driver, and today German site VideoGamesZone.de (linked above) reports that running homebrew Kinect applications may soon be possible on PS3 via OtherOS and API OpenNI drivers.

Sony Patent Uncovered for Kinect-Like PlayStation Device 550°
November 16, 2010 // 1:24 am - While Sony is currently promoting Move, today Siliconera.com (linked above) has uncovered a patent for a Kinect-like PlayStation device filed by Sony Computer Entertainment America.

While it's not a controller-free environment, the new controller device does track the location of players.

To quote: It's equipped with a gyroscope, accelerometer, magnometer, and most interestingly an ultrasonic transmitter. The controller uses this to communicate with another device to determine the location of the controller and player through echolocation.

Microsoft Announces Kinect Pricing and XBox 360 Slim Arcade 400°
July 20, 2010 // 4:16 pm - Today Microsoft has officially announced the Kinect pricing, which comes bundled with Kinect Adventures, alongside the Xbox 360 Slim Arcade console.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has confirmed that Kinect will indeed be the long-rumored $150 price when it is released this November.

The budget edition of the new version of the Xbox 360 will be released on August 3 for $199.99 and come with some differences beyond the storage space size.

Microsoft is also offering a bundle that includes a new Xbox 360 "S" Arcade and Kinect with Kinect Adventures for $299...

Video: Natal Becomes Kinect at E3 2010, November 4th Launch 250°
June 14, 2010 // 2:18 pm - Alongside some videos (below) of it in action, at Microsoft's E3 2010 press conference Project Natal was officially renamed to Kinect, which is slated to launch on November 4, 2010.
