Steinberg: Metal Gear Solid 4 is 50°
June 13, 2008 // 11:34 pm - The launch of the brilliant MGS4 is "only the beginning" of a rush of triple-A PS3-exclusives, says Sony's seemingly pleased VP of product marketing, Scott Steinberg.

With some of the console's big titles like Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, GTA IV and Singstar now out the door, Steinberg paints a positive picture for PS3 owners for the rest of the year.

"This is only the beginning of an ongoing software avalanche for PS3 that includes titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 that only PS3 owners will be able to exclusively...

Microsoft poised to buy SEGA? 50°
June 13, 2008 // 11:21 pm - It's no secret that when SEGA fell out of the hardware market, most of the devout fans of 'home of the hedgehog' pledged allegiance to the Xbox brand.

In part due to the early launch titles for the original Xbox - the classics 'Panzer Dragoon Orta' and 'Jet Grind Radio'. Both niche titles brought the SEGA faithful over to Microsoft's house for a party.

Much has changed over recent years though, with SEGA upping their release schedule across not just the Xbox brand, but also the Playstation and to a lesser extent, Nintendo consoles. This rather bulky release...

When asked if his new role includes looking at how Microsoft is going to transition into the next console, Kim said:

Well, stop hoping and praying. Not answered in other words. Here's what Square Enix's NA PR has to say:

June 2, 2008 // 3:18 pm - The film industry is underestimating the threat that digital downloads pose to its traditional revenue streams from sales of physical media such as DVD and Blu-ray movie discs, claims the founder of download service iLoaded.

June 1, 2008 // 6:57 pm - The cat is now out of the bag, people finally knows that BioShock is coming to PS3, after it was 'confirmed' not to.

Well, I worked on the PS3 version, I was even lead programmer for the PS3 SKU at one point, but then there were a lot of lead programmers that worked on the PS3 version, but that's a sordid tale for another post. Today's post is about one of the lies of the games industry, the exclusivity deal.

Nowadays, almost all high profile games from 3rd party publishers are planned from the beginning to be multi-platform and simultaneous release. The extra cost of...

Wii cracked with no Hardware Mods! 400°
May 28, 2008 // 12:17 am - Victories are inevitable in the technology war between platform holder and hacker/pirate. No matter how clever the former are the latter will always catch up.

This has always been so. Once a system is cracked the floodgates open as the word spreads on the interweb.

Now the Nintendo Wii is cracked, supposedly so it can become an open platform for homebrew. But what it means is that the pirates will exploit the same loophole so they can steal people's work instead of paying for it. So the Wii will become even less worthwhile for third party publishers.
