Video: Ubuntu SSD - 22 Seconds from Pressing Power to Firefox 200°
April 16, 2009 // 2:27 pm - According to MattCutts via YouTube:

I decided to see how fast Jaunty Jackalope (Ubuntu 9.04) would boot with a solid-state hard drive.

I used Intel's new X25-E Extreme, which uses faster single-level cell (SLC) memory chips instead of slower multi-level cell (MLC) memory chips.

Total boot time from pressing power to Firefox loaded was about 22.5 seconds, with about 5 seconds of BIOS display on a Thinkpad.

That means that Ubuntu 9.04 booted into Firefox in about 17.5 seconds.

Microsoft Infiltrates Firefox With .NET Framework Component 250°
February 10, 2009 // 6:59 am - What did Microsoft want to achieve with this nebulous, spyware-like update?

That question was posed by the author of Dedoimedo, when he found that the latest update to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (KB951847) secretly added a strange new component to Firefox.

This is a very serious breach of user trust. Not only is this package delivered without explicit approval, it's also made difficult to remove.

Moreover, its use is not clear. The change affects third-party software, not one of Microsoft's products.
