The Three Teams and Extra Coffee Behind Unmechanical: Extended

50°
2w ago - Grip Games CEO Jakub Mikyska shared a video today showcasing the three teams and extra coffee behind Unmechanical: Extended for PS4 and PS3 platforms.

To quote: Hi, it's Jakub from Grip Games. This week, we launched Unmechanical: Extended for PS4 and PS3.

Just like the story of the game, even the development has been a difficult journey full of puzzles and problems. This post-mortem article maps what we think went right and wrong during the development, and what has shaped Unmechanical: Extended into what it is today.

Unmechanical started its life as a PC game, developed by Talawa Games and Teotl Studios. At Grip Games, we have a long history of working with other game developers and bringing their games to consoles - The Impossible Game being the best-known among them.

But Unmechanical was a completely different beast - created using an AAA engine, bigger than any other game we have made up until then and with a dedicated fan base that would eat us alive if we messed it up. Developing Unmechanical: Extended was really like getting sucked into a dangerous underground world looking for a way to see the daylight again.

Feel the Beat in Jungle Rumble, Swinging Soon to PlayStation Vita

24w ago - Disco Pixel's Trevor Stricker invites PS Vita fans to feel the beat today in Jungle Rumble, which will be swinging soon to PlayStation Vita.

To quote: We are stoked to announce that our rhythm game sensation, Jungle Rumble: Freedom, Happiness, and Bananas is coming to PS Vita very soon! We are adding more monkeys, more beats, and more bedlam. This is bananas!

What's Jungle Rumble? The player drums to control a tribe of monkeys. A rival tribe invades to steal bananas. The player sends monkey minions into the fray by drumming on the screen. It's the world's craziest rhythm game.

Using the PS Vita's touch screen to tap along to the beat of the jungle, players drum on monkeys and then drum on trees to have their simian soldiers swing through the trees. Drum on coconuts and then drum on enemies to throw those coconuts with rhythmic flair.

The player jaunts through the jungle with a rhythmic grammar. Unlike a traditional rhythm game there is no script to follow-in Jungle Rumble drumming controls the game.

As the game evolves, the questions pile up. Why would that tribe invade and shatter the peace in the jungle? What would cause them to risk war?

Jungle Rumble features a dynamic soundtrack - as more and more monkeys team up, the music swells with intensity....

EA Sports UFC: Feeling the Fight on Sony PS4 / PlayStation 4

50°
55w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements invites fans to feel the fight on EA Sports UFC for Sony's PS4 / PlayStation 4 videogame system.

To quote: Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson circle each other warily in the octagon. Gustafsson leans on his rear foot, his toes spreading subtly under the weight; Jones shuffles forward, his shoulders clenching as he adopts a defensive position. Soon, the fighters trade blows, leaving livid bruises on each others' bodies and blood stains on the floor.

This agonizing level of visual detail is just one of the many ways that EA Canada aims to make players feel the fight in the team's first official UFC licensed game, EA Sports UFC. It launches this spring, and it's coming to PS4.

We went hands-on with an early build of EA Sports UFC running on PS4. What we played showcased the developer's commitment to creating an authentic MMA fighter. And since the team is comprised of Fight Night series veterans, they're bringing a vast body of knowledge to EA Sports UFC.

Because EA Sports UFC is built for PS4′s hardware, there's no legacy code to compromise the visual realism. Each fighter has been scanned in using EA's proprietary technology, reflecting exact body dimensions, tattoos, and skin tone in painstakingly detailed character models....
