Sony Goes Hands on with Dark Souls II for PS4 on PlayStation 4

3w ago - Sony Social Media Senior Manager Sid Shuman went hands on with Dark Souls II for PS4 today on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin on PS4 adds the expected technical improvements, but also remixes core gameplay elements to give veterans a reason to dive back in.

The jump to PS4 has given developer FromSoftware an opportunity to paint a more pleasing picture. The native 1080p resolution, upgraded lighting effects, and cinematic filters give the game a richer, cleaner look compared to the PS3 version.

But the biggest improvement comes from the improved frame rate - 60 frames per second according to Bandai Namco representatives. The increased fluidity translates into more responsive movement and combat, a major advantage considering the game's famously unforgiving difficulty.

Then there are the gameplay adjustments. You won't be able to rely on your memory to cakewalk the PS4 game because some enemies and item locations have been changed. Enemies will follow you more tenaciously, even through fog gates - a terrifying, potentially ruinous side effect of PS4's expanded RAM pool.

Some weapons are also being tweaked. I noticed that the Fire Long Sword, a powerful early-game weapon that saved my butt countless times on...

50w ago - Namco Bandai Community Manager J Kartje announced that Dark Souls II is out today on PS3 with details below.

To quote: March 11th has arrived and it's time to go beyond death. The Dark Souls II servers are live and we're excited to see everyone online and exploring the world of Drangleic.

Today, we wanted to give an extended look at some of the Covenants that you may be joining in Dark Souls II. This is not a complete list as we wouldn't want to spoil the secrets that await you on your quest.

Covenant masters are scattered throughout the world of Dark Souls II and, under certain conditions, may invite you to join their ranks. Seek the protection of a noble order of knights. Defend against invaders from other worlds.

Set out on a lonely and arduous journey. Lay a trap and draw other players into your world. Protect a long-forgotten tower. Thirst for more blood. These tasks and more are laid before you as you deceive, challenge, and offer aid to fellow players online.

Way of the Blue

Not everyone seeks to challenge other players online. Joining the Way of the Blue will give a player access to a ring that will summon a member of the noble Blue Sentinels if invaded by an enemy player from another world. If you're not comfortable battling online...

Namco Bandai Unveils Dark Souls II PlayStation 3 Survival Guide

51w ago - Namco Bandai Community Manager J Kartje unveiled a Dark Souls II PlayStation 3 Survival Guide for PS3 fans today!

To quote: Dark Souls II continues a long tradition of games that will challenge even the most veteran of gamers. You'll explore, experiment, and die many times throughout your quest.

While it would be against From Software's design philosophy to give you a detailed map of the world and a full explanation of the game's story, we did want to give you a few pointers before you go beyond death come March 11th on PS3.

A few basic changes exist within Dark Souls II that even the Souls veterans might want to know before venturing into the land of Drangleic:

Fast Travel: Bonfire's serve as the "checkpoints" in Dark Souls II. As soon as you light a new Bonfire, you're able to travel between that fire and any other Bonfire that you've lit.

Leveling: Spending hard-earned souls to level up can only happen with the Emerald Herald, a specific NPC you'll need to return to each time you wish to seek more power.

Welcome to Majula: Soaked in eerie sunlight, you'll be roaming around the hub town of Majula early on in your quest. Majula houses the Emerald Herald, vendors, merchants, and other persons of interest that will help you piece together the many...
