Federal Judge Rules BitTorrent Site IsoHunt Infringed Copyrights 650°
December 28, 2009 // 8:51 pm - U.S. District Court Judge Stephen Wilson has ruled that BitTorrent search engine IsoHunt, which is currently still operating, has infringed on copyrights by intentionally encouraging piracy.

To quote: "Evidence of defendants' intent to induce infringement is overwhelming and beyond reasonable dispute," wrote U.S. District Court Judge Stephen Wilson in the central district of California.

The ruling is at least the fourth major defeat for a peer-to-peer company since the courts shut down the original Napster in 2001. Four years later, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled...

Reggae man sues Rockstar, Take-Two for Copyright in GTA IV 50°
September 10, 2008 // 9:53 pm - Looks like trouble never sleeps in Liberty City, indeed. This time around, it's a music copyright lawsuit that's filed against Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, particularly on the songs played on the in-game radio station.

Jamaican Linton White alleged in his complaint that the reggae song "Last Night" making its rounds on the GTA IV (Xbox 360, PS3) airwaves care of the reggae station, Massive B Sound System 96.9, was actually co-written by him with one David Brooks (aka "Mavado"). Apart from that song, there's also "Bullet Proof Skin", which he says he co-wrote with Brooks...

PlayTV goes back to DRM-free, PSP-friendly copying! 250°
September 3, 2008 // 8:53 pm - Sometimes it's hard to keep track of what's "official" and what's not - especially because Sony continues to contradict itself. When we first heard the Euro-exclusive PlayTV box would allow users to copy recorded shows onto the PSP, we all said "yay."

The convenience of recording TV and taking it with us wherever we go sounded swell. Then, we found out that the files would be restricted.

Well, with PlayTV in the hands of reviewers, it appears Sony has switched back to the original plan. You'll now be able to copy DRM-free versions of your recorded programs to your PSP,...

Top Three things that Sony should copy from Microsoft 500°
June 24, 2008 // 5:31 pm - I'm a huge PS3 fan, and (IMO) it's easily the best system. However, here are some things that I think Microsoft does better that I would like to see Sony imitate. This is intended to be lighthearted, so please make comments accordingly.

1. Timely Western Releases of Japanese Games.

There are great Japanese PS3 exclusives like Yakuza 3 that take forever to get released in the west. Yakuza 2 is taking at least two years. WTF! The game is done: the code, art, plot, game mechanics, everything is built, written, finished, and tested. Does it really take years and years...

Canadian Copyright squares off against ESA- Infectus profiled! 50°
May 12, 2008 // 7:00 pm - Canadian copyright scholar Howard Knopf squares off against Stevan Mitchell of the Entertainment Software Association on BNN's SqueezePlay.

Toward the end of the video, an Infectus chip is shown and discussed- no doubt due to the ICE raids of last year and the rise of Canadian mod-chip resellers the ESA is trying to target next.

Quite interesting to hear both sides indeed... go Canada! :P
