November 20, 2011 // 12:54 am - This weekend PlayStation Vita homebrew developer SKFU has released a PS Vita Firmware xTractor application for the PC which allows users to extract the PSVita Firmware from Sony's new handheld game console followed by v1.01 and version 2.00 below!

Download: PS Vita Firmware xTractor / PS Vita Firmware xTractor v1.01 / PS Vita Firmware xTractor v2.00

From his site: Since a more or less short break from public posts I am back with a little tool called "PS VITA Firmware xTractor".

For now it only works with firmware 00.945.040, tho surely I will update it sooner or later. Just a short info about the firmware itself, it is not unencrypted like the PS3 ones.

The tool is meant for those who will join the VITA scene as a little sign that you are not alone Crawl out of your holes and come up with your tools and research, guys!

I hope the PS VITA scene will not fck up as the PS3 scene did over the last months cuz of the piracy infected environment. If you ask anyone who was with the beginning of the PS3 scene it was much more fun without the commercial sense behind it all.

Without this sht it would even have saved many talented people of a lot of trouble. Nevertheless I hope to see the good guys back at VITA!

Greetz to the ones who kept it real,

- SKFU

The one thing i'd love to be able to do is read MKV's (with soft encoded subs -eg. horriblesubs, etc etc-) and WAV files (or MP3 at 320kbps and/or over)

make this possible devs plx!!!

Yea it's stupid to post everything to same time you've found. Looks like "look what i can i'm such great". I don't mean skfu especially. I mean every one posting such things and give them a chance to patch with next update before something good can be done with it. This happens also in past for the ps3. But skfu made a few things for the ps3 which he self claimed potential to get into the system and for what i know it wasn't him who has finally made the doors open.

I assume this is with fw 1.00 - those are known for fast freezing - also not that much patched yet as 1.50 / 1.51 FWs ... so it might be that flaw is already gone by now.

Yeah, they probably spent more time on making a new memory card for the Vita rather than ensuring that their system is secure.

Ah yes soooo sweet. If they would have spend the same time on the real security they have spend for locking users out or to spy on them this wouldn't be happen. That's one of the things i mean. Spending time to force us and spy on us but impotently to deliver a system that is nearly really good produced and have just a few unimportant flaws.

Following up on his previous update, today PlayStation Vita hacker SKFU reports that he may have uncovered a PS Vita encryption flaw.

To quote from his page: Since I finally have access to a retail PS VITA, today I started with some basic tests.

After a complete freeze of the system within the first 5 minutes after unboxing (*always happens to new consoles 4 me rofl*), I went on and noticed that there is a problem with the VITA's encryption functions and was able to decrypt some test files directly via the system.

I will post updates as soon as I have news

Linux version compiled and attached below.

I just updated the PS VITA FW xTractor, changelog is attached below.

The 2.00 version had a problem setting the filenames correctly as the 1.0+ updates have different files than the older ones. Anyway, enjoy...

  • Filename fix
  • Download FW added
  • Minor stuff
