March 19, 2012 // 1:58 am - Following up on his previous release, today PlayStation Vita developer PsDev has made available a Multi PKG Tool which now allows users to decrypt and extract PS3, PSP, and PS Vita PKG files.

Download: Multi PKG Tool v.

To quote: This Tool can decrypt and extract Playstation Vita, Playstation Portable or Playstation 3 retail pkg.

It uses the PSP/PS3 AES key that is used to decrypt and extract PSP/PS3 retail pkg. However, No longer can Playstation Vita PKG over beta/retail 1.00+ be decrypted and extracted with the PSP AES key.

I would like to give a big, big, big thanks to Mathieulh, Because I used his AES Engine to decrypt PS3 retail pkg, Without that it could have taken me way longer to make this tool.

I wonder if the .pkg files that are distributed with Linux for SONY smart tv sets are the same format and can be also handled the same way. Sony does make the repos available, but to be able to actually make a loadable firmware, one needs to pack the complete repository into a single pkg file, which then SONY will automatically sense and copy off the USB stick you plug in it (with the pkg on it)

I've been wondering if I could make my own pkg, out of the repository SONY gives, but stripped off the unwanted applications and make it just a plain O/S with the few features I want and nothing else, then make it into a pkg file, and flash the SONY/Adnroid with it...

I can't find no information about SONY pkg anywhere else, but I have a feeling they might actually like to leverage what they already have been using for their other devices, now in their TVs...
