251w ago - The DemonHades Spanish PS3 Development team has been working on a project which aims to utilize a mod-chip to run PS1 and PS2 back-ups on a PS3 console without opening it or using switches and have posted up a concept video today.

According to one individual with a highly questionable reputation, this concept project could work because PS1/PS2 discs are authenticated only once on the VSH though liblv2 and the PIC chip would just automate it.

However, if Sony updates liblv2.sprx and more specifically ps1rom.bin so the emulated mechacon is updated it could be patchable.

Finally, to roughly translate from the video's caption:

"This video montage shows the operation of the chip that we are developing to load copies of PS1 and PS2 (if you're retro) in the PS3.

This video shows how to work, without leaving the console open and without switches etc out.

More information on the development of moddchip www.demonhades.org."

Hey boss could the ps3 be fooled like the ESR for ps2... for example lets make a blueray movie disc and place all the game files in the structure then point the play movie bluray startup file to the ps3 executable on the disc once the drive is unlocked cause it picks up the ps3 game as a bluray movie...

Any thoughts?? Seriously make a fake bluray movie structure, place all game files in the structure then point the play movie button to the ps3 executible file?? what's the worse that could happen like the drive is unlocked and the executible may boot just wonderin...

Is the PSN better ?

I know it's a little bit off topic but, what do you guys think ? Is there a difference between playing Final Fantasy 7 on disk and trough PSN ?

If the difference is 0, I'm considering this modchip.

yes for example policenauts have english subtitles russian version ps1 games

have translate on russian and russian sound (not licened) , games very little in psn e.t.c

I said, no current but future updates may can detect it, but very unlikely to detect during game. I understand it is entirely hw based, but still, if they want, they can do another media-type-detect after you started from xmb; but very unlikely to do it during game (swap-disc ready).

It is very much detectable by new fw, but if you extend this device, to work with swap-discs, then it will be more likely "future-proof".

(why? because, swaps are valid discs, the drive/fw has no right to do further checks, as it would cause issues in emulation/running, unlike the added check after you start a disc)

false,no put be detectable, read me old post.

The ps1 games you download actually have the emulator code within them. So basically, the ps3 just sees it as a "game" it's running like any other game you download, but the internal code makes it an emulator that plays the ps1 game.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.

All PS3 models can play PS1 discgames (through a complete software-emulator), the PS1 games that are in the store do not have an emulator in them, they are just fixed (if necessary) so the games run good on the standard emulator (which ofcourse isn't really good at all compared to an 'opensource' emulator like ePSXe.

Nope, your wrong, those 60GB(EU)/80GB(US) did have partly hardware support which was later removed (later 80GB all regions). only the first batch of 60GB(US/JP) PS3's had complete PS2hardware (emotion/graphix chip) onboard, the latter only 1 chip (graphix chip) and emotion was emulated..

Now there appearently is already a full PS2 emulator (which also emulates the graphix chip) available, but Sony decided it is better to not release it so people will buy those HD-remakes (yep, sony are nothing more than bastards, a bit like Apple)..

This would be awesome if it would be able to give Ps2 compatibility to those models that don't have it.
