235w ago - A few months back it was first reported that a Sony ban wave was imminent, and today DJLO over at PSX-Scene reiterated the fact that it's only a matter of time until Sony begins banning PS3 JailBroken consoles.

To quote: Folks, Sniffynose pointed me to this. Since we are all updating now, you ALL need to read this and pay attention

On boot the system contacts the server and uploads the play list etc. this list alone is enought to get anyone that goes online banned as it shows the bootmanger etc. has been running. Here is the list and what they do, I port sniffed this a while ago before I went online with a retail unit >.> because I am not stupid hehe.

All these need to be blocked, web access will still work, updates will still work, but psn and any system messages/ads/communication will be blocked completely. For other areas someone would have to sniff the addresses again to compare. North American Servers are listed.

fus01.ps3.update.playstation.net > Update Server (sys updates)
mercury.dl.playstation.net > What's new ads
nsx.np.dl.playstation.net > playstation store preview
nsx-e.np.dl.playstation.net > ads
(main file exchange connections)
us.np.stun.playstation.net > on boot initiates connection
ena.net.playstation.net > SSLv3 connection after above connection
dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net > secondary update attempt (could force updates)
auth.np.ac.playstation.net > SSLv3 authentication server
(destination servers)
service.playstation.net (has multiple IPs if only the ip address is blocked)
(Error Reporting)
creepo.ww.hl.playstation.net (uploads crash reports etc.)

Almost all connections cannot just be port blocked, the port will continue to increment until it connects, you have to block the entire domains. Also a big point is that ALL computers on your network need to have these blocked not just the PS3's MAC because if you are running a proxy for example to get patches, the computer you proxy to will just allow the connections right out to the open unless all local IPs are blocked from these sites as well."

Agreed, This exactly, I have over 50 PSN games that I have bought over the years, I've shelled a hell load of money.

When they stripped out Linux, I thought WTF? but for security reasons I thought, okay thats cool.

Hell, even after I heard the PS3 had been hacked, I was about to update. But then I read about how the new update killed various USB peripherals and no longer worked, not to mention issues with games like Dragon Age Origins which I won. So i thought, why not check the hack out and see whats up.

Open Manager helps my console not go all crazy on me, although I never had problems with discs, my PS3 was starting to get quite loud, and even hot. Now it's just the latter, it gets hot, but thats it.

They should recall that yes, although the PSP was pirated. I know a bunch of people that bought one simply for the homebrew, to be able to play oldschool games on it, especially back when PSP had absolutely zero good games during launch. I remember I'd play more DGEN and SNES than anything else.

Then from there, it's just a push of a button and boom, banhammer.

Nah dude, haha. Lets not get ahead of ourselves, it's like with M$, everyone was speculating all kind of absurd things just because of paranoia. Of course, its also good not to take chances. But I rather have some of these blocked than none at all. Regardless though, its not like Sony has no way of accessing this, they could be among us right now... DUN DUN DUNNNN.

Better to be safe than sorry... I don't want a crippled console =/ (though, that's all $ony updates do)

My router - Verizon FiOS Router, Model #: MI424WR

How would I go about blocking these addresses with this router? Or am I going to have to use that link? I really don't wanna have to sign up for that if I don't have to.

But yea, not that I even beleive that myself, I'm just being skeptical, giving something to think about.

Banning all the jailbreakers would just make the choice easier not to update, not to buy DLC, and not to buy any PSN content.

Do you really want to alienate those users, Sony? Even jailbreak users are considered valuable online purchasers. Renting out movies, buying PLUS subscriptions, etc. Banning the whole jailbreak userbase will simply block any possible profit those users may give.

On the other hand, banning users won't stop them from pirating and playing the great offline selection of games.

Sony is better off trying to fight with firmware updates, than just banning that complete userbase from online services and subscriptions that make money for the company.

True, we all must remember M$ didn't start wrecking havoc until Halo 3. Almost two years later after the console had been hacked, they must've been studying, and working out those muscles before they swung the banhammer.

Now in days, they seem to be very good at it. But I wouldn't know, It's been awhile since I've used a 360. It's better to be weary though.

Why wouldn't they? This way its much more efficient! If they keep on updating the game never ends. BAN = ConsoleBan. So it does not matter what FW you put on it... it's not comming on PSN anymore.

Idea (just crazy one) Whe can hack the system right? Why not change our code from the Backupmanager to a Game that is on PSN? I mean... it can't be traced that way!

i'm not sure why people are expecting a ''ban wave'', just because M$ did it doesn't mean sony will do the same, they are doing well with the mandatory updates.
