September 27, 2010 // 9:07 pm - Today garyopa at (linked above) reports that Sony appears to be targeting the PS JailBreak, PSFreedom and PSGroove related PS3 hacks and has shared numerous court documents for those interested.

From one of the documents, to quote: "Similarly targeted document subpoenas or deposition notices to any other third party who SCEA learns may be involved in the distribution or sale of the PS Jailbreak software, known as, for example, PSGroove, OpenPSJailbreak, and PSFreedom, or who may have knowledge of the distribution or sale of this illicit software."

PS3 hacker Mathieulh is also mentioned in one of the documents as recently proclaiming to be one of 20 individuals behind PSGroove, to quote: "Mathieu Hervais told BBC News he was one of about 20 hackers involved in PSGroove's development."

Just under a month ago Sony was granted an injunction by Australian Courts on the sale of PSJailBreak PS3 modchips, followed by blocking PS JailBreak and PS3 proxy methods with the release of the PS3 Firmware 3.42 update, so only time will tell what their next move is.

This is so absurd. I really wish there was a clear cut definition of what 'Circumvention' is, when its legal and when its' illegal, and whether or not a device can be banned retro-actively.

There is so much speculation that goes to this case too, I doubt one person in that court has any understanding of how the PSGroove goes about its business...its a witch trial with the whole, "it does this, which it shouldn't be able to do without the MAGIC of the much be a witch", feel to it. Making matters worse are the motions to expedite matters which will ultimately lead to less understanding than necessary.

Anyone able to tell me without a doubt if me having a complete backup of all 60 of my purchased and owned PS3 games would be illegal?

Sounds like they are only interested in the source behind the original jailbreak as it appears it maybe someone from inside sony... (dare i say it)...

Lets be honest here. Sony should disable online ability for jailbroken systems.

people who want both should buy another ps3 console, as it is now possible and will only improve in the future, faulty ps3 consoles would be ideal for jailbreaking (obv if the fault is the bd drive).

That way sony sells more consoles, people still buy games (the very very best games will always sell, the utter rubbish will never sell because it is rubbish, nothing to do with piracy, it doesnt sell. Life lesson for game developer) and sony and developers can flog DLC and other cons to make more.

That way nobody loses.

I could give a monkeys about online play, its all well and good but it is far, far, far better imo to have ya mates round, few beers, maybe a smoke, big munch and blitz the ps3. Online play imo makes people look like loners (no offense, i'm basing this on two xbox loving friends of mine) so the old style multiplayer is my preference.

They not giving up suing maybe its an indication they want the whole payload gone?maybe because there isn't any permanent fix to this?maybe they know something we dont know (yet)? Iam just speculating, talking out of my rear here hehe, And that's why they havent stopped yet? seems like they doing all they can to stop the whole psgroove/jailbreak payload.

Just shows you $ony ARE really pathetic. They should be happy they had 4 years of a non hacked console.

Wtf is this piracy you speak of?
