SmallLoader and XMBoot - Create PS3 XMB QuickBoot Containers

Download: SmallLoader v0.2 / XMBoot v1.0 / XMBoot v1.1 (PL3 update by n4ru)

To quote, roughly translated, on SmallLoader: "TheTool offers a loader used shortcuts in the XMB to rip up a game in the drive without going through virtual BR open the backup manager or manager.

Use:

• Edit file game.ini located in the folder PS3_GAME/USRDIR:
• In the path variable, specify the path of your games (Ex: path = / dev_usb000/gamez/BLES12345). You can also delete the line path, smallLoader use the GAME folder which is in USRDIR (just copy your games in that folder).
• In variable autolaunch, enter 1 if you want smallLoader start the game automatically switches to "No AB" and 0 if you want to go back to XMB after the game is installed.
• In the folder PS3_GAME, copy the file ICON0.PNG, PIC1.PNG .....
• Using PS3SFOEdit , edit the file located in PARAM.SFO PS3_GAME
• In "Basic Setting", change the value by that title id you want
• In alt-(default) specify the name of your game
• Click on save and overwrite the old file PARAM.SFO
• Open the file has smallloader.conf using notepad for example.
• In line Product_ID, replace BLES12345 by title id values you have filled in the file PARAM.SFO
• You can save and close this file.
• Now you can generate the PKG file using the command "make_package_npdrm smallloader.conf PS3_GAME /" (without the quotes and the command prompt windows).




v0.2 changelog:

• Added fix for the problem of controller.. to enable or disable it, change the line 'fix =' in file game.ini (untested, with no games involved in this problem)
• Added a function to restore the normal functioning of BR player, just run the shortcut by pressing the button [].

Finally, from the XMBoot ReadMe file, to quote:

XMBoot is a stripped down backup app which will allow you to create the equivalent of a 360 QuickBoot container. This allows you to create a custom entry on your XMB with the original audio/video from your backup with which you can either boot DIRECTLY into your game (if supported), or mount it for launching via XMB.

To load the original XMB video/icon/sound/etc you will need to copy that content out of the /PS3_GAME/ directory of your backup and place it in the subdir of this package prior to compiling.

NOTE: If using the backups original .SFO file you will need to edit it to report itself as HG (Harddisk Game) rather than DG (Disc Game).

If not using the original SFO from a backup, be sure to edit the included SFO to specify your game title.

Also be sure to edit the package.conf and SFO so that your new package has a unique Title ID.

You will need to set three options in the main.ccp file prior to compiling your package:

game_path is the path to the backup you wish to use

ex: /dev_usb000/GAMEZ/BLUS-12345/

The app does NOT scan for usb device #'s, so you will have to hardcode it to the usb slot you use. direct_boot is the option to attempt launching the EBOOT without booting back into XMB. Does not work with all games, but will let you direct boot games on which it does! use_hermes is an option to apply the Hermes F1/SFIV/etc fix at runtime, doesn't work with every game.

Because these options are stored in main.cpp you MUST recompile in order to change your container setup. These options 'could' be moved to be stored in the SFO file instead, which would allow you to simply edit the SFO instead, bypassing any need for an SDK setup.

Seems like some games are picky with this method in both using the direct boot feature or just the mounting feature. I tested this in Demon's Souls. Using either method the game cannot access the hard drive. BUT when loaded up in open manager WITHOUT direct boot it works fine. This is on Hermes payload 1.1 on a XPLAIN. Going to test with the new payload although I doubt it will make much difference if any. Damn I wanted the shortcut for this game too lol.

The Title ID of the game pkg will be used. But we use uniqu ID's to not overwritten some importend data of save files or so. But would need to test if we can use the normal game id. Then it would look like the normal game and online gaming would be possible.

The question i am posing is around the fact it's been stated before that if you "mount" a game via "Backup Manager" and then run said game - your friends saw you as playing "Backup Manager" (when sony allowed 3.41 on psn!).

With the forwarder setup with the games .sfo etc it sounds as though when the game is launched it's reported to the OS as the actual game (as opposed to "Backup Manager") therefore it kinda stands to reason that IF we could connect to PSN that your friends would see you playing the game (instead of "Backup Manager")

I may have missed something here since there has been soo much activity recently - but this seems to be a way to play on-line (If/When the 3.41 on PSN issue can be resolved to allow a 3.41 console to connect!) ?

You need to install MSYS environnement and add make_package_npdrm.exe. You can change icon0.png by one of your choice.

How to:

In a folder ,copy the PS3_GAME from your game, SmallLoader Configuratatator.exe and make_package_npdrm.exe. And just click "Compiler en pkg " and it's finish. You can now copy this pkg on your ps3 via usb or ftp, and install it . You will see the game icon like when you install a demo.pkg on your xmb, click it, it's your game

This is pretty cool, now we might see some PS3 games released with a pre-packaged .pkg that will install the shortcut for the game.

This is great - just need one point clarifying...

So, I create a shortcut package using my original game's .SFO, titleID, Name etc - does this mean that I i then run the shortcut and subsiquently the game that the PS3 thinks that THIS GameID is running (as opposed to the BM where it thinks eg LAUN12345 "Backup Manager" is running)

i.e. Does this mean that if we were able to get PSN access back again that the PSN servers would think we're running the legitimate game as opposed to the backup manager?

Not really that helpful at the moment since you must be on a higher firmware to access PSN - but can't help thinking that EVENTUALLY that's going to get hacked again too! lol

dude that command is to compile it from the leaked sdk. If you're asking that you shouldn't be using this. But, just to answer your question that should be put into the MSYS console while in the root of the smallloader folder. There are plenty of guides on how to setup the sdk in either linux or windows.

Oh btw this tool is awesome! Direct booting into demon's souls with one button

Ok updated my PKG Tool and now Jurai2s XMBoot is included.

Dont forget to edit the main.cpp to add the path to your game on internal or external hdd.

How to use: Just run the tool and press 10 for Jurai2s XMBoot

Press 1 to copy game files to the working dir

2 for editing the sfo file and set the game to HDD Boot game and edit the Title ID to a unique one.

After that press 3 for generating the package.conf (i have changed it for my app to xmbootpkg.conf)

Press 4 for editing the main.cpp and set the path to your game on internal or external hdd and set if you want to quick boot it and if you want to use the hermes fix (for next update i will try to do that without opening the main.cpp)

At last 5 to generate the Custom Game Package

Now you have a instalable pkg file wich will be displayed in your ps3's game category like demos or arcade games.

NOTE: This doesnt generate FULL game pkg's !! They only have the banner, icon and sound files from your game.The eboot.bin is a kind of Forwarder and contains a small bootloader that knows where your game on the hdd will be stored and boot it normal or quick and with or without the new Hermes fix.

so is the ps3 booting the PS3 games from the XMB directly like a PSN game does..?
or is the SmallLoader or XMBoot app required to be loaded 1st or something before you can launch you PS3 game from the XMB..?
