To quote: "Hello,

Our USB Updater is finally here!!!

This is just a rough version and the process for end users will be a lot simpler.

Step 1: Go to libusb and download and install the lib USB driver.

Step 2: Paste this link into your browser and download Updater: HERE

Step 3: Unzip the file and run the program updater.exe

Step 4: Plug in your PSJailBreak USB unit and click the My Serial Number Button on the top left of the window.

Once this is done you will have to email us back your serial number from the same email account we sent you our email.

We will then generate the files for each individual serial number and email you back the file to update your USB unit.

Please remember that for end users, the lib USB driver will already be built in to the updater program and users updating files will automatically be generated after clicking the My Serial Number Button, so the process will be very simple.

Please get back to us asap with your individual serial numbers.

Thank you"

You're a bit mixed up here ... Sony removed mainly support for UNLICENSED 3rd party controllers - not ALL USB devices as clearly USB Flash drives or hard drive and so on still works and indeed it blocked the exploit in it's current state.

Then if it is their work, what are we talking about? A team has found an exploit in the USB module of the PS3 and is now selling it worldwide. Ok. That exploit is the same used by Sony (therefore, not an exploit, but a backdoor) in repair centers. Huh?... Strange.

I'm not bashing or anything like, I'm just trying to understand who did what with what (or whose...) hardware. I'm pretty sure I heard on this very site that they got their hands on Sony's jig and then reversed the method, but as I have no thread to link to, I can accept (and agree ^^ ) that I am wrong.

Don't give the PSJailbreak team too much credit. It's Sony's Jig module and Geohot's linux exploit that led to this hack. I give them credit for being the first to do it, but I have no doubt that it would have happened anyway.

Yea i'm pretty sure its 'their' work. my understanding is that Math's team did the reverse-engineering of PSJailbreak's jig.

Can we really say it is their work? If i am not mistaking, the "jailbreak" we have is simply Sony's USB jig, right? (by the way, couldn't there be an Ethernet jig? or a SD jig? Just wondering...)

They were able to mass-reproduce it, but that's all. They just got the piece of hardware we were all looking for and reverse-engineered it, am I right?

I actually agree with SwordOfWar. I'm constantly seeing people bashing the PSJailbreak team but everything that has been developed so far stems from their original hack. We should be a little more grateful for their work.

Personally, I look forward to anything that comes from this team as we all know it will be reverse engineered and eventually make its way into the open source community.

Three people on another site bricked their consoles trying this beware!! also the only way i see the jailbreak team adding new fw support is patching the updates to allow the hack to be used on 3.42/3.50 requiring you still be on 3.41 to install the patched update (making it a CFW).

either way if you have 3.42 or 3.50 you're screwed. (unless they figure out a way to sign an update that will work from usb and allow it to install a cfw on retail ps3's VERY UNLIKLY if they had a way to sign it then we wouldn't need the usbkeys to begin with) i got 2 ps3, one for jb one for psn/3D blurays/gt5 ect!

For all we know the first mod psjailbreak made was a soft mod that is still avaliable in newer firmwares. It would make sence since softmods are not sellable and not releasing guarantees no one outside your dev team even knows it exists so to say its impossible for them to find somthing new like 3.42+ jig keys is silly.

I'm just saying.
